Obituary:
William "Butch" Van Straten, Shiocton, age 70, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012, as a result of cardiac complications from pancreatic cancer. Bill was born April 8, 1942, in New London, the son of the late Dale and Phyllis (Fries) Van Straten. He graduated from Shiocton High School before serving his country in the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart for his heroics. On May 24, 1969, Bill married Cheryl Schroeder. He was employed at Terra Chemicals International. He was a member of the American Legion Post #512 and a lifelong member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton. Bill enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, the Brewers, Timber Rattlers, and Packers, but most of all spending time with his 3 grandsons.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cheryl; 2 sons, Travis (Gina), Hortonville and Lance (Lisa), Appleton; 3 grandsons: Trevor, Trey and Chase. 3 brothers: Ronald (Barb) Shiocton; Tim, Hiles, and Mark, Appleton; 3 sisters: Norita (Gary) Barrington, Manawa; Cheryl (Nick) Hofacker, Appleton, and Suzy (Paul) Schmidt, Fremont. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Terry, step-mother Lorraine, and a sister-in-law Charlotte.
Funeral mass for Bill will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton with Fr. John Kastenholz and Sister Pauline Feiner officiating.
Interment will be at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Bill's name.
