    Obituary:
Edward Arnold Hooyman, age 90, of Appleton, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 13, 2012 after a short illness. Ed was born in Freedom on March 30, 1922 to the late Herman and Anna (Murphy) Hooyman. He was raised and went to school in Freedom where he helped on the family farm. Ed proudly served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army.
On June 15, 1944, Ed was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Helen Syring - the couple recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Ed was in sales most of his adult life and owned and operated Lakeside Motors/Classic Auto where he was known to many as "Lakeside Eddy." Ed and his wife Betty enjoyed keeping their home open like a big "club house" where the family gathered on holidays and other special occasions. He and Betty traveled extensively overseas and have visited all 50 states. He also enjoyed attending auctions and Friday night fish frys. He was a member of the Appleton Elks Lodge, VFW, Legion, and St. Bernard Catholic Church.
He will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Betty; 9 children: Trudy Fagg, Dan (Bonnie) Hooyman and daughter Rebecca; Pat (Dick) Pleier, and their children Brittany (Kevin) Tapley, and Michael; Larry Hooyman and his sons Troy and Brett; Bill (Joan) Hooyman and their sons Andy and Adam; Carla Klein and her children Whitney and Eric; Ann (Mike) Lutz and their children Matt, Eric, and Ashley (Mike) Dercks; Gregg (Pam) Hooyman and their children Amanda (Jered) Kamin and Jason; and Tim (Sandy) Hooyman and sons Nick and Alex. 8 great grandchildren: Ali, Gretchen, Alyssa, Eliese, Autumn (shared the same birthday as Ed), Emily, Alex, and Makayla; great great granddaughter, Lily; daughter-in-law Lori Hooyman.
He is further survived by his sister Alice Much; 2 brothers: Ervin (Judy) and George (Donna) Hooyman; 2 sisters-in-law: Leora and Marian Hooyman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers: Joseph, Kenneth, Herb, and Gerald Hooyman, 2 sisters: Ethel and Lorraine, and brother-in-law, Nyle.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton with Father Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery, Freedom. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to caregivers Linda and Dee Dee for the compassionate care shown to Ed.
