Email 11/04/2005 Hello Jay, I can't tell you how many times I have thoug ht of you recently. I was in Portland for 6 weeks in May/June when my Mo ther passed away, and this has triggered so much more. Then I was up the re again----including Verboort/Forest Grove visit----in Sept. I don't k now how much you need/want to know, but I thought you'd like to know a lit tle bit at least. When Mom died, it triggered stops in all the cemeteries to see my fami ly on both sides. We are now placing a headstone in Rose City Cemetery f or my Mother's parents and brother who have never had one before....they d ied 1928 and 1932 about, but couldn't afford it then. This grandmother w as cremated and we never found the ashes, so we added her to the mark er to complete the family and unfinished business. Mom never said a word a bout this and she never drug us out to the Cemetery, so we learned all th is after the fact. So interesting. I don' know how interested you are......she was a Peters before re-marryi ng.....died as Dora Helen Morrison on June 4th, 2005 at 93 of a stroke ( on death certificate---Portland, OR, county of Multnomah). Born Feb. 11, 1 912 in Portland OR, county of Mult. Do you want more?As interesting is that I went out to visit my friend Lois Verboort wh om I had worked with for 40 years. She gave me the tour of Visitation Cem etery and the local homes, families, etc.. I met Rev. Scott Vandehey at t he Catholic Church----he knew you well. He's the geneologist with volum es of the Dutch families in the local area---living and dead! You have c orresponded with him as a resource, I'm sure.We shared some info---he gave me a sheet of info re: my Grandparents Peter s, my father's parents. He also showed me a photo of my great grandmother ---Grandpa's mother; had to be her, they looked sooo alike. He wanted a nother opinion on this, and I said YES---had to be. Now I have to get t ogether with my nephew who has our family archives....for more photos a nd info.Out at the cemetery, we walked the rows of headstones and I found my gre at grandparents--Grandpa's parents! Amazing. All these years and we nev er knew all this....I also tripped over my Father's cousin's headstone: Larry Hilaire (Spiess chaert), and his wife, son, and sadly daughter. We knew this whole fami ly well as my brother's went thru school with Kerry and Karen. Now I kn ow why my Mother said they were Spiesschaerts; he just didn't use this na me in business (prob. too long and unwieldy). And because my Father di ed before 40, we just didn't learn more about the Peters and family. So now, heady with some new info---I'm interested in documenting some of t his. Rev. Scott had a great form, but I don't know where to obtain more-- -or do I make one up? I'm starting a 3-ring binder---I'm not so hot onlin e, but could pull forms if I had a source. If I can get it down on pape r, I would be most pleased and can go from there.....simply. At least t he more recent history. You did all the hard work!I do have some new information (both sides of my family) from the death ce rtificates that we have tracked down, and if I can get it organized it wi ll be more readily available to view and enjoy. Don't know if you want a ny of it---nothing on Micke and Wilpolt that you wouldn't already have.Well, thanks for listening! I was referencing your letter of 2/21/2002 f or your address. I hope all is well for you. Thanks for sharing so muc h, and any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. So interesting. Possib ly, Cousin Jan (Peters Hurt)

    email 3/ /2008 Hello Jay,
How are you these days? I haven't heard from wonderful you, but want you to know how much fun we are having w/ the Peters family tree. We went to the Verboort sausage festival in Verboort, OR (Forest Grove now) and have found our great grandparent's graves in the Visitation Cemetery, no less!!!! It has been tons of fun, all thanks to you and your enthusiasm. We are glad you found us, and shared sooo much.

    Obituary:
Hurt, Jan (Peters) Wells 72 May 16, 1939 July 06, 2011 Jan Hurt was the first of four children born to Lester and Dora Peters. She was given the name Janis Mae, which many of her friends called her affectionately for all her life. She was born in Portland and attended Duniway Elementary School and Cleveland High School. She went on to study at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., for two years before graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science. In 1961 Jan began her life career as a flight attendant for Western Airlines based in Los Angeles. When Western was purchased by Delta Airlines, she continued on with Delta until her retirement on Dec. 31, 2001, after 40 years flying. Jan could be described as a world traveler and a caring friend to many, staying in touch with childhood friends and friends from her work and travels. She enjoyed ballet as a child, sang in the church choir and was an avid skier. Hiking, visiting National Parks and attending opera and music events were among Jan's passions. She visited many of the world's great cities and was known to be a shopper extraordinaire. Jan had an eye for fashion and a generous nature. She was a lifelong learner and enjoyed the history of places she visited. Those of us living in Portland benefited from frequent visits from her, because of her commitment to family. Jan had a ready and warm smile and a cheerful disposition. The lilt in her voice and sparkle in her eyes will be deeply missed. She was full of life and laughter, and she enjoyed people. In the last months of her life, as she battled cancer, Jan was visited by family and a constant stream of good friends who cherished their time with her. She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Tom Hurt of San Clemente, Calif., and family in the Portland area, including brothers, Jim, Alan and Phil Peters; three nieces; and one nephew. Memorials in her memory may be donated to Assistance League of Capistrano Valley.
