    Gene served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1964-1968 as a 3rd class fire control technician aboard the USS Chipola and USS Ponchatoula.

    Obituary:
    Gene I. Vandenberg, Appleton, 65, died on Sunday February 13, 2011, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born April 20, 1945, in Neenah to the late Isadore and Louise (Blohm) Vandenberg. He attended Kimberly High School, graduating in 1963. Gene served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1964-1968 as a 3rd class fire control technician aboard the USS Chipola and USS Ponchatoula. After the service he worked for G&L and other companies as a machinist. Gene travelled the U.S., Europe and Asia to help set up paper machines. He was involved with BMW Motorcycles and belonged to Badger Motorcyclists of Wisconsin and BMWMOA. In 1975, he bought a BMW and worked for the BMW dealer in Marquette, MI. Gene got out of biking for awhile. At this time he moved back to Appleton and worked for Valmet for a number of years. He enjoyed camping, bowling, fishing and golf. In 2003, Gene was diagnosed with cancer and had major back surgery. Back into biking 2004 he rode solo and with friends to National Rallies in Washington, Ohio, Vermont, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Tennessee and Oregon. His favorite rally was the Finger Lakes Rally in New York. He also helped lots of fellow BMW riders with HID and LED lights for their bikes.
    Gene is survived by his son, Joe (Marie), Menasha; grandchildren Austin and Savannah May; brothers: Rick (Sandy) and Mike (Vicki); and sisters: Joan (Kevin) Deno and Janet (Bill) Meyer. He is further survived by step brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Patrick W. "Rick" Vandenberg, Little Chute, age 68, died Monday January 5, 2015 at Cherry Meadows. He was born in Neenah on October 23, 1946 to the late Isadore and Louise (Blohm) Vandenberg. Rick was a talented high school athlete and had the opportunity to play semi-pro baseball. His father advised him against it, telling him to get a real job because there was no money to be made playing ball! His love for athletics remained through his entire life.
    Rick served in the U.S. Navy for two tours during the Vietnam War on the USS Chipola. His home port was Pearl Harbor.
    Rick married Sandy Schinke on April 4, 1970 in Chicago, IL. He retired from U.S. Venture (Design Air) in 2013. Rick enjoyed racing, following the Badgers, Packers and Brewers and trips to the casino.
    Rick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy; and son Todd (Samantha) of Appleton. He was eagerly anticipating the birth of his first grandchild in two weeks. He is further survived by his sisters: Joan (Kevin) Deno and Janet (Bill) Meyer; sisters and brothers-in-law: Vicki Vandenberg, Ernie (Rosie) Schinke and Gary (Margo) Schinke; good friend Neal Isbel; dog Buddy; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law: Ernest and Marjorie (Zuleger) Schinke; brothers: Eugene and Mike Vandenberg; sister-in-law: Barbara (Blaine) DeWitt; nephew Timmy; and aunt Tootie Zuleger.
    Visitation will be held Saturday January 10, 2015 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. Deacon George Schraufnagel will officiate. Committal Highland Memorial Park. A memorial is being established.     Michael G. Vandenberg, 61, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Appleton Medical Center. Mike was born July 6, 1949, to the late Isadore and Louise (Blohm) Vandenberg. After graduating from Kimberly High School, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1967-1971, during which time he developed a love of the coast, particularly Cape Henry.
    On April 8, 1978, he married Vicki Thiel and they had two beautiful children together. Mike retired from Kimberly-Clark in 2006 after 24 years as a machine tender.
    He was a loving husband and father who provided his family with everything they ever needed in life. An extremely intelligent man, he was an excellent teacher to his children. He had a gift for drawing and woodworking and a passion for sailing. Every summer he took his family to vacation in cottages all over northern Wisconsin and made some great memories.
    Mike will be sorely missed by his wife, Vicki; his daughter, Beth (Brandon) Sanderfoot, Combined Locks; his son, Michael (fiancee, Mackenzie) Vandenberg, Appleton; and his three grandsons, whom he adored, Caleb, Colin and Cooper Sanderfoot. He is further survived by his brother, Rick (Sandy) Vandenberg; two sisters, Joan (Kevin) Deno and Janet (Bill) Meyer; his father-in-law, Wayne Thiel; a brother-in-law, Chuck (Dorie) Thiel; a sister-in-law, Bobbie (Dennis) Gerrits; and many nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Vandenberg; his mother-in-law, Jeanne Thiel; and his dog and best buddy, Mollie.
    His family wishes to thank the staff of ThedaCare Hospice, the AMC ER, ICU and Floors 3 and 8, for all of the amazing care with which they provided Mike and his family. A special thanks to the Gold Cross Ambulance Service and his nephew, Joe Vandenberg.
