    Joseph G. "Tiger" Verstegen, age 86, of Little Chute, died with his fami ly by his side Monday, December 5, 2005, at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna. He w as born April 19, 1919, in Little Chute son of Joseph W. and Anna (Van Gom pel) Verstegen. Joseph married Charlotte Clark August 1, 1951, at St. Jo hn Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. Mr. Verstegen was a memb er of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. He was employed at Kimberly Cla rk, Kimberly for 42 years until his retirement and was a Little Chute Vill age Trustee for 20 years. Joseph was a graduate of St. John High School wh ere he was a Golden Gloves boxer and excelled in football, basketball a nd other sports. He attended Marquette University and Michigan Colle ge of Mining and Technology, Hough-ton, Michigan. Mr. Verstegen enjoyed sp ending time with his family, golfing, bowling, cards and the Packers. He w as a member of Fox Valley Golf, Oakwood Hills and High Cliff golf course s. Joseph was also a 61-year member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Po st #258, Little Chute. Mr. Verstegen was a WWII veteran. He served in t he 15th Army Air Force, 827th Bomb Squadron, 484th Bomb Group in Italy a nd Northern Africa as an airplane mechanic and his unit was awarded the Pr esidential Citation. Joseph was a volunteer member of the elite "Flying Ti gers".Joseph is survived by his wife, Charlotte; children, Eileen (Rick) Van Ro y, Little Chute; Philip Verstegen, Orlando, Fla; Greg (Sheryl) Verstege n, Little Chute; Shirley Verstegen (Ken Meurer), Chicago, Ill; Marsha Gre be (Mike Zedler), Appleton; nine grandchildren, Brad (Kelly), Dan, Katie V an Roy, Chad Hanson, Justin and fiancee Carly Kramer, Shelley, Caleb Verst egen, Jason and Emily Grebe; two great grandchildren, Ella, Bryson "Porky "; sisters: Bernice Vander Velden; Irene (Don) Peeters; Ida (James) Peeter s; Joanne Hawley; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marie Verstegen, Lore tta Hoelzel, Gen Worby, Gwen (Rich) Knutson, Elton Knutson; nieces, nephe ws and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Aloysius, Lester (Pe g), Clarence, Gerald (Margaret), Robert (Lillian), Carl, Ernest (Ann) Vers tegen, Regina (Clarence) Bouressa, brothers-and sisters-in-law, Joseph Van der Velden, Charles Worby, James Clark, Joan Knutson.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2005, at S t. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Beno officiating. Int erment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at t he Verkuilen Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday where a Legion pray er service will be held at 5:30 p.m. and from 10 a.m. Friday at the chur ch until the time of the mass. Military rites will be conducted by the Jac ob Coppus American Legion Post #258, Little Chute following the mass.
