ONEIDA MAN INSANE, TWO DOCTORS SAY Coroner's Jury Finds Dead Man Was Murdered by His Employer. Complaint charging Steve Gaunt, 37 years old, town of Oneida farmer, with murder in the first degree was prepared Tuesday by District Attorney John A. Lonsdorf after a coroner's jury recommended that Gaunt be held for the murder of William School, 57, a farm hand who had been working for Gaunt, on Sunday. After deliberations of less than half an hour the jury brought in a verdict in which it was found that Mr. School came to his death at the hands of his employer after his skull had been crushed in by some blunt instrument or weapon. It is believed that an axe was used. Members of the jury were Charles Fose, George Walsh, Peter Stark, J. J. Hauert, C. A. Hipp and Oscar Kunitz. Immediately upon being informed of the alleged murder Monday morning the district attorney ordered an in inquiry into the weird death. The jury was called at 10 o'clock by Sheriff Peter G. Schwartz and a trip made to the scene of the alleged atrocity; from there the group was taken to an undertaker's establishment in Little Chute to view the body ,of the slain man. CALL WITNESSES At noon the inquest was Adjourned to 2 o'clock when sessions were resumed in the circuit court room at the courthouse. Witnesses called consisted principally of Gaunt's two brothers, the sheriff and Deputy Jay Bushey, and a neighbor who declared that both men were seen alive early Sunday morning. The crime is supposed to have been committed during the morning hours. The mental condition of the alleged murderer is apparently so unsettled that It was thought useless to even call him at the inquest. Since his incarceration in the county Jail Gaunt is reported to have said nothing of consequence concerning the case. THINKS HE IS DIVINE According to two physicians who have interviewed Gaunt, the prisoner Is insane. He suffers delusions of grandeur, a not uncommon form of neurosis wherein he imagines himself omnipotent, it is reported. One of the delusions he is said to have explained to physicians is that at the time of the slaying he believed himself to be divine and specially ordained to stamp out School's life in the hallucination that his victim was the devil in human form. "Gaunt is not shamming, he Is not the type of man who at his best would have the type of intelligence necessary to hoodwink justice," Mr. Lonsdorf declared. The punishment, if Gaunt Is found guilty of murder or adjudged insane, amounts to the same in essence. In the* latter event were he to at any time in life regain command of his faculties he would still be under indictment and subject to prosecution on the homicide charge, it was pointed out. Coroner Herbert E. Elsworth presided at the Inquest. Preliminary examination will' be held before Judge Theodore Berg in municipal court. A still,80 gallons of moonshine and a quantity of alleged wine found on Gaunt's premises were destroyed by Sheriff Schwartz. No suspicion had been directed against the place as a manufactory of alcoholic beverage and it was only through the murder that the double purpose of the farm home was brought to light. Monday it was thought that a quarrel over disposition of the profits of the still or perhaps a drunken orgy had led up to fight .in which one of the participants lost his life but this theory was abandoned by the authorities after the investigation. That Gaunt was losing his mind be- came known Saturday when two brothers from Green Bay visited him and later told the authorities here of their suspicion that their brother is mentally unbalanced. They however, had no idea that his mania had reached the point where he might be a menace to human life. Relatives claimed the body of Mr. School. It was released to them by the coroner after the inquest.

Gladys L. "Granny" Meis, Appleton, age 96, passed away at Appleton Health Care Center on Saturday, June 5, 2010. Granny, as she was called by most, was born in Freedom on January 10, 1914, to the late Joe and Petronella (School) Houle. On November 20, 1934, she was united in marriage to Frank Meis at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. They had 2 children together, a daughter Charlene and a son William "Bill." Frank preceded her in death in 1952. Gladys went on to marry Joe Meis on August 31, 1954, in Greeley, CO. Joe passed away in 1982.
Granny lived in Greeley and Kersey, Colorado, from 1954 to 1980 when she returned to Appleton. While in Colorado, Granny took great care in helping to care for 2 of her grandchildren, Vicki Jo and Frank. Granny was the only person known to fall up a ladder. She enjoyed playing the organ, was not one to pass up a good game of cards, and read dozens of "pre-read" books sent to her from Vicki. It was a condition of accepting the books that Vicki read them first. Granny would quiz Vicki on them to be sure she had indeed read the books.
Once back in Wisconsin, she was able to spend time with her other two grandkids, Lorie and Debbie. Granny enjoyed fishing, and on one fishing trip with Debbie, fell into a hole on the walk down to the river. Debbie and Granny laughed so hard it was difficult to get her up on her feet.
Lorie and Granny shared a love for critters. Granny would feed the birds, squirrels and strays that came to her apartment. Lorie would often bring Sheeba, a Pit Bull mix, to Appleton Health Care Center on her visits. Granny would rummage through her things to find a "treat" for her.
Granny loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and she was diligent in praying her Rosary. Her belief and faith in the Catholic Church could not go unnoticed.
Gladys is survived by her daughter-in-law, Karen (Bill) Meis and dearest friend, Butch; son-in-law, Leonard (Charlene) Seidl; two stepsons: John and Gerald; stepdaughters in law, Ellen (Linus) Mese, Fern (Ken Meis) Ross, and Jenny Meis; grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Vicki Jo (Ken) Highfield and their sons Kenny and Zachary, Frank (Julie) Meis and their sons Derrick and Brandon, Debbie (Kevin) Marg, Lorie (Loren) Madden and their kids Nikki (James) Ryberg and their daughters McKenna and Kailyn, Jenna Madden and her good friend Jeff, Jason, Keith and his good friend Brittnie. Stepgrandchildren: Barb (Jim) Reinke, Dennis (Karen) Seidl and Ken (Jean) Seidl. Ten stepgreat-grandchildren and many stepgreat-great-grandchildren; Dorothy "Dot" Meis; two nieces: twins June (Karl) Pasch and Jane. She also leaves behind her dearest and most trusted friend Judy Danzinger and her roommate at Appleton health Care Center Mary Rusch.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her children Charlene and Bill, her brothers and sister-in-law: Ira (Velda) Houle and Ervin Houle; stepkids from husband Frank: Ken, Alvin, Alfred, Linus and Irene; stepkids from husband Joe: Ann Stroh, Eleanor Darling, Katherine Krois and Betty Conduay; and pet bird Trixie.
The life of Gladys blended several families from Colorado and Wisconsin together. If anyone was overlooked, it is with sincere apologies and by no means intentional.
A celebration of Gladys' life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Father Larry Abler officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. As per Gladys' wishes, the Rosary will be prayed. Interment will take place at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery, Freedom.
Going through the notes of wishes for Granny's funeral was a side note written by her late daughter, Charlene: "You were a great Mother."
Gladys appreciated and was thankful for her care givers at Appleton Health Care Center.

Iline Margaret School Arts, Little Chute, age 91, died peacefully surrounded by her family, the evening of November 30, 2008, at the home of her daughter, Nancy, where she had resided the last two years. She went to her Lord, holding the hand of her beloved sister, Alyce, with whom she shared a special bond. Iline was born to the late George and Minnie (Klaishuis) School in Freedom, WI, on August 7, 1917; she was the fifth of nine children. She married James H. Arts on June 24, 1941, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute. He preceded her in death April 2, 1997, after sharing 55 years of marriage. Iline lived and worked in Neenah/Menasha and Chicago in her younger years, but spent her married life residing in Little Chute. She enjoyed travel to many parts of the U.S. and Mexico, however all by car or train of course, as she would not fly! She was an excellent seamstress, sewing many items of clothing for her daughters, granddaughters, family and friends. She loved to cook and bake, being especially known for her apple pies and chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed a good game of sheepshead, Liverpool rummy, cribbage and the "occasional" jaunt to the casino. She also enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Door County with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Iline liked to play golf and she and Jim were members of Fox Valley Golf Course for many years. She also enjoyed bowling in a couples league with Jim, and a Tuesday morning ladies league at Village Lanes once Jim became ill. One of Iline's special life events was a surprise 90th birthday party organized by her daughters, and was a true celebration of her life and friendships. Iline was an active member of her church community at St. John and shared a deep faith in her Lord, which sustained her as she struggled with her declining health and lack of mobility in recent months. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Society and the Third Order of St. Francis.
Iline is survived by her three daughters: Nancy Lee Arts, Little Chute; Cynthia (Mark B.) (Arts) Nelezen, Oshkosh; and Judy (John P.) (Kerrigan) Vanden Bosch, Seymour; a sister, Alyce Kons, Kaukauna; a sister-in-law, Beverly School ; and Delores Murphy, a special friend and step-sister. She influenced the lives of her six grandchildren: Abigail Iline Nelezen, Oshkosh; Karen (Ben) Muenster, Seymour; Vicki Vanden Bosch, Green Bay; Amy (David) Renon, Greenleaf; Todd (Lynn) Vanden Bosch, Freedom; eight great grandchildren: Chelsey, Brittney, Dustin and Dylan Muenster; Kaitlyn and Jennifer Renon; Zachery and Kyle Vanden Bosch. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and god children, whom she cared for deeply.
Iline was preceeded in death by her parents; seven of her siblings and their spouses: Bernice (Anton) Meulemans, Loretta (William) Gerrits, Marie (Herbert) Anderson, Alois (Irene), Melvin, and Richard (Carol) School, and infant brother Billy; brother-in-law, Raymond Kons; sister-in-law, Sister Helen Arts, O.P.; and a grandson, Paul Vanden Bosch.
Iline was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; family was the most important thing in her life, and this was very evident Thanksgiving weekend as family and friends gathered together to share a last moment with her. The house was full of laughter, remembrances, cherished photos shared, story telling and of course food for the visitors, who came to lend support and prayer.
Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008, at St. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St., Little Chute) until the time of the Funeral Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. James Hablewitz will officiate with Deacon Vincent De Groot concelebrating. In keeping with Iline's wishes, in lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory for parochial education, which she actively supported.

Alyce Kons, 87, Little Chute, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Renaissance Assisted Living. She was born in Freedom on June 7, 1922, to the late George and Minnie School. Alyce married Raymond Kons on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 1942, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. He preceded her in death on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2005, two days short of their 63rd wedding anniversary. Alyce served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army (WAC) as a surgical technician during World War II. Her name is inscribed on the "Women in the Military" monument located in Washington, D.C. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Parish, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258. Alyce lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and Marshall Knutson, for 4 years prior to moving to Renaissance in February. She enjoyed fishing, camping, going to cottages, ice cream, playing Liverpool Rummy and the occasional trip to the casino. Alyce especially loved children, spending time with family, all animals, and her little dog Wanda. Alyce loved everyone and everyone loved her.

Chester J. School, 84, Freedom, died peacefully in his sleep Wednesday morning, July 2, 2008, at his home. Chester was born November 9, 1923, in the Town of Oneida, a son of the late Jacob and Mary (Randerson) School. On June 30, 1945, Chester married the former Gladys Baril. Chet dairy farmed all his life. He was born on the farm, raised his children on the farm, and died on the farm. He loved the land and could not wait to get out on it. His greatest joy was being with his family. He especially liked when they all came up to his trailer at Silver Cliff.
He is survived by his wife Gladys; his children: Gloria (Tom) Farrell, St. Charles, IL; David School, Kaukauna; Gary School, Appleton; and Robin (Ollie) Toms, Appleton; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Chet is further survived by his two sisters-in-law: Millie School and June Lemorand.

She was born in Freedom on October 6, 1917, daught er of the late Leo and Adriana (Arnoldussen) Schommer. Hazel was a reside nt of Appleton for most of her life and worked at St. Elizabeth Hospit al as a L.P.N. for 23 years, retiring in 1980. Raymond J. Schommer, Combined Locks, age 87, died Thursday October 29, 2015 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, surrounded by his family. He was born in Freedom on May 25, 1928 to the late Leo and Jennie (Arnoldussen) Schommer. Ray served in the Army from 1949-1951 during the Korean War. He married Betty Scheller on May 10, 1958 at St. Nicholas Parish in Freedom. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2012 after 53 years of marriage. Ray was an active member of St. Paul Parish. He was also a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 and the Freedom V.F.W. Post 7692 and was a past commander of both organizations. In June of 2015, he was humbled and honored to visit Washington DC as part of the Wisconsin Old Glory Honor Flight.
Ray's hobbies included throwing horseshoes, bowling and playing cards. He also enjoyed camping and fishing. Ray never turned down a bowl of ice cream.

Elizabeth J. "Betty" Coppus, 84, Little Chute, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Betty was born March 1, 1930, in Freedom, daughter of Leo and Adrianna (Arnoldussen) Schommer. She was married to Charles Coppus, who has preceded her in death. Betty was employed with Thilmany Bag Mill and ended her career at Zwickers Knitting Mill. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, where she attended the Mission Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary 258, Little Chute. Holidays and visits with her siblings, nieces and nephews were very important to Betty. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the lake, fishing, and playing Sheepshead, and made a point to donate blood as often as she could.
Betty is survived by her brother and sister: Raymond Schommer and Anna De Coster; sisters- and brother-in-law: Helen Schommer, Dorothy Coppus, and Jerome Coenen; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Carl Kieffer, 89, Freedom, died following a short illness, Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital, Green Bay. He was born February 5, 1917, in Freedom, son of Peter and Nellie (Arnoldussen) Kieffer. Carl married Georgiana P. Stoop in 1947 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church and she preceded him in death April 19, 2001. Mr. and Mrs. Kieffer farmed for several years before owning and operating Kieffer's Cottages in Laona. After retirement they moved to Freedom. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and wintering with his wife in Florida. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with the 3rd Armored Division and was a member of the Freedom VFW Post #7692.
Carl is survived by two sisters: Janet Van Handel, Kaukauna and Audrey (Bud) Albers, De Pere; brother- and sisters-in-law: Ruth, Mary and Eva Kieffer; Marie Woods, Delores Stoop and Peter (Verdel) Stoop; many nieces and nephews.

Janet C. Van Handel, of Kaukauna, passed away on August 7, 2008. She was born on December 7, 1921, in Kaukauna, the fifth of eight children born to Peter and Petronella (Nellie) Kieffer. Janet married John B. Peters on May 16, 1946. They farmed in the Town of Vanden Broek until 1961 and then in the Town of Oneida until John's death on October 28, 1977. They raised six children. On September 13, 1985, Janet married Mathias A. (Matt) Van Handel and they made their home in Kaukauna. Matt passed away on December 16, 1999.
Mom enjoyed cooking, music, dancing, shopping for bargains, and playing cards. She was a waitress at the Swan Club in De Pere for many years and volunteered at St. Paul's Nursing Home in Kaukauna. Mom was faithful to the Catholic Church and even though other memories failed her in her later years she could flawlessly recite her prayers.
Janet is survived by five of her children and their families: Sharon (Phil) Keener (children Renee (Kris) Tobias, Aaron, and Jason (Laura), Diane (Reginald) Lawrence (children Scott (Jill), Michael (Jenny), and Jeffrey (fiancee Angela), Ken (Darlene) Peters (children Kevin and Kurt Peters, Adam (Stephanie) Rickert, Luke (Becca) Rickert, and Diane, Laurie, and Lee Rickert), Shirley (Donald) Conrad (children Tom (Tracey) and John (Deann), and Darlene (Jeff) Vanden Boogart. She is also survived by great grand children: Kendra and Kyla Tobias, Alexis Keener, Zoe Lawrence, Mariah Rickert, Ethan Conrad, Tayah and Addison Conrad, and Peyton, Aryanah, and Austin Rosin.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna (Ron) Rosin (children Brian and Becky Rosin).
Janet is further survived by Matt's children and their families: Margaret (Michael) Bartelt, Paul Van Handel, Jean (Robert) Hruska (children Kelly, Linnea, and David), Joyce (Robert) Luckow (children Daniel (Karen), Stephanie (Juan) Gonzales, Angela, and Pamela), Fred (Marilyn) Van Handel (children Amelia and Rebecca), and Luke (Ellen) Van Handel. She is also survived by a great grand child Andrew Luckow. Janet's sister, Audrey (Wilbert "Bud") Albers, survives in addition to sisters-in-law: Ruth, Mary, and Eva Kieffer.

Arlene M. Laack, 74, of Greenleaf, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 1, 2011. She was born September 4, 1936, in Wrightstown to the late Clifford and Mildred (Meulemans) Arnoldussen. On July 12, 1956, she married Jerome Laack. Arlene was born and raised in Wrightstown having graduated from St. Paul Grade School and Wrightstown High School, as well as later from the Appleton Business School. She worked for many years at Kimberly-Clark, she then stayed home to raise her children, and did bookkeeping for Laack Cheese. Arlene then did bookkeeping in the Insurance Industry until retirement. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church in Wrightstown her entire life. Arlene loved to travel, especially winters in Florida and summers at the cottage in Lakewood. Her true passion was her family that she loved so dearly.
She is survived by her husband Jerry, her children; Jeffrey (Lynn) Laack, Mark Laack, Kim (Jeff) Vander Heiden, Kristy (Shawn) Wurzer, and Terry (Jesse) Hockers, as well as 12 grandchildren; Kristin, Connor, Mason, Mitchell, Courtney, Mariah, Kevin, Justine, Jordan, Bailey, Kaitlyn and Jacob. Her aunt Evelyn Blick, and Jerry's family; Frederick (Anna) Laack, Clintonville, Donna (Douglas) Geyso, Mary (Ken) Hermsen as well as numerous nieces and nephews survive.

Cliff was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Thilmany Pulp and Paper for 46 years until his retirement in 1992. Archie P. Huss, age 80, of rural Tigerton passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at ThedaCare Medical Center in Shawano.
Archie Peter Huss was born on May 22, 1935 in Kaukauna to Lester and Ellen (Aronoldussen) Huss. After high school he entered the U.S. Army in 1952 and retired from the military in 1975. He served in both Korea and Vietnam. Archie was united in marriage on February 2, 1975 to Magdalena K. Augesen in Ogden, Kansas. In December of 1975 the couple settled in Tigerton where he enjoyed the outdoors, especially his passion for hunting. Archie made numerous Elk Hunting trips out West with relatives and friends until his health declined. Archie was also a handyman who could weld and fix almost anything. He was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, the 1st Cavalry Division Assoc., and the National Rifle Assoc. Archie was a member of the American Legion Post #239, the Kettle Moraine Chapter of the 1st Cavalry Division Assoc., the Retired Enlisted Assoc., and the U.S.S. Wright Assoc. He liked trapshooting and was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. Archie belonged to Trap Clubs in Weston, Ingersoll, and Antigo. He was a member of New Horizons United Methodist Church, Wittenberg.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie; two children, Sandi Brady of Hatley and Don (Angie) Augesen of Westmoreland, TN. There is one granddaughter, Melanie (Jon) Kulas of Galloway. There are four great grandchildren, James Brady; Korbin, Paylin, and Kastin Kulas. There are two brothers, Harvey (Elaine) Huss of Kaukauna and James (Barbara) Huss of Appleton. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Archie is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Brandon Brady, a sister, Alvina "Alvie" (Eugene) DeBruin, and a brother, Clifford Huss.

Kaukauna - Harvey J. Huss Sr., age 77, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at ThedaCare Medical Center in Appleton surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Kaukauna on May 3, 1940 to the late Lester and Ellen (Arnoldussen) Huss. He married Elaine Taylor on July 30th, 1960 at Saint Bernard Catholic Church, Rockland, Maine. Harvey was a Coast Guard veteran and worked at Thilmany until his retirement in 2002. He was an active member of Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna and became the sexton of the parish cemetery from 1972 until his retirement in 2015. Harvey enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Harvey spent many hours puttering in his workshop, leather working, and gardening. He also enjoyed exploring local history. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, ice fishing, sturgeon fishing and spending time at his cabin in Athelstane.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine; children: Charles (Connie Otto) of Darboy; Harvey Jr. (Jill) of Kaukauna; Sally (Ken) Regel of Milton, PA; Cynthia (Robert) McDonough of Appleton; and Steven (Ami) of Appleton; grandchildren: Ann (John) Kasson, Colleen (Dan) Sloane, Kevin (Calicia) Huss, Jessica (Anton) Gohl, Nicolas and Joshua Huss, Nathon Regel, Richard (Amanda) and John (Chelsea) Regel, Travis (Ashley), Ryan and Melissa McDonough, Holly (Nicholas) Vanden Bloomer, Corey, Samantha and Izabelle Huss; great grandchildren: Adam and Luke Kasson, Hunter, Amelia and Breigh Sloane, Keegan and Carley Huss, Josalyn Klapper, Ryle Gohl, Nicolas Sodmont, Ryan Johnson, Aria Regel, Brooke and Lily McDonough, Theodore and Robert Vanden Bloomer, MaKenzy Huss and Kenneth Lyons; mother-in-law Gleana McDonald; brother James (Barbara) Huss; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Magdalena Huss, Roy (Wendy) Taylor and Patsy (Ken) Wentworth. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his siblings: Alvina (Eugene) De Bruin, Clifford (Ruth, Elaine) and Archie Huss.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 12, 2018 at HOLY CROSS PARISH (309 Desnoyer St. Kaukauna) beginning at 12:00 Noon until time of Mass at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. John Mullarkey will officiate. Merlin Martin School, age 84 of Freedom, WI went home to our Lord on Monday October 27, 2014. Born January 19th, 1930 to the late John and Marie (Gerrits) School.
On October 4th, 1950 he married June Vandenberg of De Pere at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown, daughter of the late Nicholas and Gertrude (Vande Hey) Vandenberg. Merl served in the US army in Korea. He retired from Roundy's in Little Chute in 1985. He was a member of the VFW #7692 of Freedom, The American Legion #258 of Little Chute, Member of the Knights of Columbus #8061 Council of Freedom having served as Deputy Grand Knight. Merl enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his family. He loved sports especially the Packers and Brewers. He was an usher and devoted member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. He truly loved his family and his dogs Ollie, Gizmo and Bo.
Survivors include his wife June of 64 years, son Ken School of Madison, daughters Lynn School (special friend Nic Lehnertz) De Pere, Lisa Bolwerk (special friend Russ Bolwerk) Freedom. grandchildren Dana Greely, Cincinnati; Matt Greely (special friend Amie Baldwin) Appleton; Ryan (Tara) Bolwerk and great granddaughter Nora, Appleton; Nicole Bolwerk (special friend Dan Polans) Milwaukee; Michael & Liz Bolwerk and great grandsons Marcus & Lucas, Appleton. sister Dorothy Goffard of Greenville; sisters-in-law Isabelle Vosters, Freedom; and Joan Schultz, Shakopee, MN brother-in-law James Hoffman as well as many other relatives and friends.

Rosella J. Verbeten, 78, Kaukauna, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 22, 2011 at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna. Rosie was born on December 17, 1932, in Oneida, WI, daughter of John and Marie (Gerrits) School. Rosella was united in marriage to James Verbeten, on April 29, 1952, at Immaculate Conception Church. She worked at Zwicker Knitting Mills, Becher Engineering, Advaced Industries, and Franciscan Care Center for 17 years. Rosie enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and puzzles. After retirement, she worked for the Step Program at Kaukauna Schools for 7 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was happiest when surrounded by her family. Rosie was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Christian Mother Altar Society, and the Queen of Peace Choir.
Rosie is survived by three sons: Thomas (special friend Cathy Kramer), Timothy Verbeten, and Terrence (Lisa) Verbeten; six daughters: Diane (Jim) Beahm, Karen Verbeten, Donna (George) Otte, Debbie (Ken) Vander Heiden, Shari (special friend Al Wildenberg), and Sheila (fiancé Mike Novachich) Verbeten; 22 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother: Merlin (June) School; sister: Dorothy Goffard; brother-in-law: Daniel (Margie) Verbeten; sister-in-law: Patricia (Roger) Bowers; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. William J. School "Bill," age 80, Mountain, passed away in Waupaca on March 20, 2011, following a long illness during which he fought cancer and beat it twice. Bill was born in Oneida on December 12, 1930, to the late Raymond and Jeanette (Gerrits) School. Bill served in the United States Marine Corp in the Korean War. He married Evelyn Fisher on September 12, 1953, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Suring. Bill was employed for 26 years as a Foreman at Badger Northland in Kaukauna. In 1979 the family moved to Mountain where Bill logged, worked as a janitor at the Mountain School, and served as a bus driver. He was a past Supervisor for the Town of Mountain. His favorite pastimes included fly fishing, bird watching, and he was a true nature lover. Bill is a member at St. Michael Catholic Church Chapel at Chute Pond. He had a very strong faith in God.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn of Mountain; two daughters, Kathy (Mike) Fritz of Mountain, Diane (Bruce) Wilz of Darboy; six sons, Dave (special friend Barbara) School of Helena, Montana, Dan (Barb) School of Darboy, Brian (Christine) School of Cecil, Tom (Sandy) School of Howard, Keith (Connie) School of Darboy, Don (Dana) School of Howard; two sisters, LaVere (Norman) Kufner of Suring, Evelyn (Jim) Quandt of Suring; sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other special friends.

He was born in Freedom on June 23, 1937, son of the late Lawrence and Virginia (Gerrits) School. On July 1, 1963, he married his wife of 43 years, Eileen Bloomer. Ron served in the United States Air Force overseas in Japan from 1955 to 1960. After the Air Force Ron was employed at Thilmany's until his retirement in 1999.Ron was an avid sports fan of the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings. Fishing, bird watching and going to the casinos; all close to his cabin, were among his favorite activities. Minerva "Min" Verhagen, Kaukauna, age 85, died Friday April 10, 2015 at the St. Paul Home after a brief illness. She was born in the town of Kaukauna on February 23, 1930 to the late Antone and Bernice (School) Meulemans. On April 7, 1951, Fr. Donald Verhagen (brother of the groom) presided over Min's marriage to the love of her life, Sylvester Verhagen at Holy Cross Parish. Ves knew when they met that he would marry her one day, and what a blessing for them to have just celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage!
Minerva was a true example of a homemaker, and her greatest joy was making a happy home for her husband and family, which included daily homemade meals, sewing handmade clothing, and keeping a clean and tidy home. She was an avid baker, sharing her special carrot cake and molasses cookies with family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who was lucky enough to purchase them at bake sales. And everyone knew their birthday cake was going to be special! Her delicious potato salad was always a must at family cookouts. Through the years, many family memories were made either camping, spending a week at a cottage, or travelling to Florida or Out West. Minerva and Sylvester shared their home with her mother, Bernice, for a number of years, and she also enjoyed being a part of some of these vacations.
In her younger years, Min spent much time volunteering at St. Aloysius School and Church, and she spent many years bowling weekly with friends. In her free time, she could always be found reading a good book, and she enjoyed playing cards with family and friends or trying her luck at the casino. Her grandchildren will always have fond memories of playing cards or games with her and Grandpa, or looking forward to one of her yummy meals or treats.
Min was a beautiful person, inside and out, and will be greatly missed by her family: she is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Sylvester; children: Gary of Eagle River and sons Seth (Heather) and Jacob (Leslie); Steve (Amy), Appleton; Michael, Appleton and sons Jason and Brandon; Mark (fiancée Sharon West) Appleton and daughters Valery (Pete) Splittgerber and Jolene (Paul) Verhagen; Laura (Greg) Huss, Combined Locks and children Christopher and Sarah (Bryan) Fourcand; Lisa (Bob) Van De Loo, Kaukauna and children Cindy (Andy) Vanden Heuvel, Emily (Sam) Verhagen, Tony (special friend Jolene Curry) and Scott; and Alan (Beth), Olathe, Kansas and children Spencer and Sloane; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Virgie Meulemans, Richard Verhagen and Millie (Ervin) De Bruin. Kaukauna - Ethel H. (Gerrits) Walker passed away on Sunday Dec. 17, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 5, 1931, the daughter of William & Loretta Gerrits. She graduated from Kaukauna High School. On October 14, 1952 she married her prom king and the love of her life, Eugene A. Walker, at Holy Cross Church; she resided in Kaukauna until her passing.
Ethel enjoyed playing bridge with the girls for many decades & numerous other card games with both friends & family. She also loved playing bingo & spending time with her family. She made the world's best party mix & always made sure you never left her house hungry!

Obituary:
Melvin Gerrits, 73, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at his retirement retreat on Lake Gogebic in Michigan. Mel was born on Sept. 28, 1936, in Green Bay, to William and Loretta (School) Gerrits. Mel worked at Thilmany until he purchased Mel's Outer Limits, which he ran for over 30 years where he enjoyed laughing and joking with his friends and customers. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan and also enjoyed golfing and playing cards. Mel also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at the cottage.
Mel is survived by three children, Vicki (Jason) Montanye, Kaukauna, Doug (special friend Sharon) Fuhs, Kimberly, and Darlene (Brian) Kersten, Kaukauna; four grandchildren, Travis and Nikki Kersten, and Kari and Linsey Fuhs; his siblings, Lorraine (Gayland) Otto, Ethel (Eugene) Walker, Viola Dickrell, and Richard (Dolores) Gerrits; special friends, Agnes Gerrits and Fabian Arnoldussen; his dog, Tanner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Ambrose Dickrell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 4 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church (309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna) with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of services at the Church. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The family would like to dedicate a special thank you to Jerald Rocco for his assistance with the family.

Lloyd Ivo Arnoldussen, Jr. 68, of Sun City, Arizona, died at Boswell Hospital of a severe stroke on October 11, 2010. Lloyd was born December 15, 1941, in Appleton, Wisconsin, the second of 4 children to the late Lloyd and Frances (Dorn) Arnoldussen. Lloyd was married in June 1964 in Appleton to Beatrice M. Koehnke (died December 4, 1989) of Grand Chute, WI, after serving for 3 years in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. Lloyd and Beatrice (25 years of marriage) lived most of their lives in AZ raising their 3 children. Lloyd worked as a carpenter for most of his career and enjoyed building custom homes and doing remodeling. He enjoyed fishing and loved football season.
Lloyd is survived by his 3 children: Bruce, Daniel and Theresa, along with his siblings: Patricia Van Weddingen, Robert Arnoldussen and Pamela Castillo, and his companion of the last ten years, Susan Sherwood. He is also survived by many sisters- and brothers-in-law along with many nieces and nephews.
A military memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., January 14, at the Veteran's National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road. Deacon Shinske will be officiating. John G. Arnoldussen, Kaukauna, age 75, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born August 16, 1938 to the late Ivo and Marie (Fink) Arnoldussen. On February 15, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carol Meyer and together they celebrated 44 years of marriage. John was employed at Thilmany Paper Co. for over 40 years until his retirement and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. John was an avid fisherman, liked playing cards and enjoyed his volunteer work at Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
He is survived by his four children: Tim (Lori), Pam (Kevin) Schaffer, Mike (Barb), and Mark; six grandchildren: Kristin (Eric) Destrampe, Kari (Jason) Londo, Craig (Tina) Huisman, Jessica (Alex) Nevermann, Tara (Nick) Rooyakkers, Joy Arnoldussen; four great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Drew, Aubrey, and McKenzie; two sisters and four brothers: Jean Buchinger, Dianne (Floyd)) Kempen, Dan (Sue), Jim (Sue), Cliff, and Paul (April). He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol and a brother-in-law, Richard Buchinger.

Randy "Bagger" Arnoldussen, age 63, passed away peacefully at ThedaCare - Appleton on July 29, 2016, following a short battle with bile duct cancer. His family was at his side. Randy was born on October 31, 1952 in Appleton, to the late Vern and Elizabeth "Betty" (Schrimpf) Arnoldussen. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School, and was a 1971 graduate of Xavier High School. Randy married Shirley M. Otte on May 8, 1976, and recently celebrated forty happy years together. He resided in Appleton his entire life, and retired in 2014 after working at the Waste Water Treatment Plant for Appvion (Appleton Papers) for forty-two years. Randy enjoyed golfing at the annual "Longest Day" and Redeye Open. His other passions included fishing at the Chippewa Flowage, which he referred to as "The Chip", pontooning and spending time at Shawano Lake, hosting annual family reunions, playing softball for Frank and Pat's Pizza, going to the casino, visiting St. Maarten, and coaching his children in numerous sports. His greatest joys were spending time with his wife, children, and five grandkids - attending their sporting events and running hugs that he looked forwar to with each visit. Randy's laughter was infectious and his presence was unforgettable.
Randy is survived by his wife: Shirley Arnoldussen; a son: Jason (Becky) Arnoldussen; a daughter: Sarah (Mike) Madson; his grandchildren: Miranda, Zack, and Brady Madson; and Morgan and Kenzie Arnoldussen. He is also survived by two brothers: Steve (Toni) Arnoldussen and Rick Arnoldussen; and a sister: Laurie (Fred) Mohr. In addition, he leaves behind Shirley's family: Karen (Tom) Olson, Sandy (Dale) Borchardt, and Tony (Maureen) Brejcha. There are also many family members and friends that will miss him. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister-in-law: Darlene Brejcha.
A funeral service for Randy will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri County Chapel, 1592 Oneida Street in Menasha, with Rev. Ben Morris officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Randy's name.
Shirley, Jason, and Sarah would like to extend their thanks to the many special caregivers that helped with Randy's treatment. They include Dr. William Conkright and all of the medical staff at ThedaCare - Appleton 7th floor. We will always remember your kindness.

Patricia "Pat" A. Anschutz, 74, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Maple Ridge Nursing Home. She was born at home, in the Town of Oneida, June 15, 1941, daughter of the late Henry and Gladys (Schommer) Anschutz.
Pat enjoyed Christmas, baking Christmas cookies, crocheting Afghans and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her three sons: Terry (Michelle) Anschutz, Jerry Anschutz, both of Seymour; Jason (Jennifer) Anschutz, Grafton; five grandchildren: Emily, Adam, Kyle, Ethan and Aubrey; former daughter-in-law, Vicki; two sisters: Marilyn Ludwig and Jean Anschutz; one brother, Jim (Cathy) Anschutz; several nieces and nephews.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, two infant sisters, sisters: Laverne (Jerry) Paluch and Elaine Anschutz.
