Obituary:
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thurs., Dec. 9, for Henry "Francis" Feller, 99, Howard, who died on Dec. 5, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center. The services will be held in St. Agatha Catholic Church at Howard, with interment following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard, and will continue at 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church.
Feller was born on Jan. 25, 1911, on a farm south of Harrold to Andreas "Andy" and Magdelena "Lena" Feller. He attended country school and then picked corn for pennies an hour in eastern South Dakota and Nebraska in the early 1930s. He worked for area farmers from 1932-39. In 1939, Francis married Anne Winker; they moved to a rented farm northeast of Howard. In 1947, he bought his own farm. He farmed and raised livestock until he retired and moved into Howard in the late 1970s.
He was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include nine sons, Charles (Ina) of Chester, N.J., Paul (Pat) of Waukesha, Wis., Ted (Pat) of Sioux Falls, Bob (Peg) of Menno, Jim (Sandy) of Hatton, N.D., David (Joanna) of Pewaukee, Wis., Bill of Dillingham, Ark., Mike of Howard; and Jon (Lori) of Howard; three daughters, Mary Catherine (Otis) Torkelson of Papillion, Neb., Rosanne Muth of Mitchell, and Patrice (Alec Baillie) Feller of Loop City, Neb.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Feller of Watertown; 39 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; five brothers, Clarence, Bill, John, Andy and Nicholas; two sisters, Imelda and Caroline; a son-in-law, Chuck Muth; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
