Obituary:
Allouez - As the sun set on Monday, January 8th, 2018, we said goodbye to our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Dr. Terry James Watermolen. He was born December 19th, 1946, in Green Bay, to the late Leland and Lorraine (Goffard) Watermolen.
Some of his most cherished memories and long lasting friendships started at St. Matthew's School and Abbot Pennings High School. After graduating from Pennings in 1965, he attended Marquette University. In 1972, Terry graduated from Marquette University Dental School. He then moved to San Diego, California, where he proudly served as Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy on active duty until 1974 and further spent four more years in the Naval Reserves.
In June 1974, Terry started his own private dental practice which later became Oak Grove Dental. During his first years in practice, he furthered his education at L.D. Pankey Institute in Florida. Larry LaPlant and Terry partnered in 1979 and built Oak Grove Professional Building. Inaddition to growing his dental practice, he and Dr. Jeff Schauder purchased a boat businessand grew it into what is now known today as Mr. Outboard's Watersports Marine. Over the last 20 years, Terry and Glen Truttmann continued to grow the business together.
Terry was also very active in the community. He served with distinction on the Brown County Library Board of Trustees from 2005-2014; and honorably served as President of the Board from 2006-2012. He was also a lifelong member of the Northeast Wisconsin Dental Study Club.
Terry was truly devoted to everything he loved in life and his family was the center of it all. His wife Judy and his four children brought him endless happiness, but his seven grandchildren were his greatest joy of all. As a family we spent summer weekends boating, winter weekends skiing and enjoyed our cottage on the bay year round. He never missed the kids sporting events, made every birthday and Christmas extra special and always snuck us home donuts on Sundays. He gave us everything in life and we will forever be grateful.
As the years went on, Terry's heart and soul was at the family cottage in Crivitz, WI. This cottage became a place where so many of our happiest memories were created and will always stay. From boating, golf cart rides with the grandchildren, games of sheepshead, bonfires with his sons-in-law, happy hours with his extended family, especially the Gilson crew, and so much more. As he remains forever in our hearts, our cottage will always be where we feel closest to him.
In a letter Terry wrote to his daughter, he said it perfectly, "Learn what to treasure. Treasure your connections with others. Find people you love and who love you. Be a good friend to friends." Terry had an incredible amount of people who loved him, especially his life-long friends that have meant the world to him over the years. Dave Conway, John Wheeler, Bill Kulkoski, Mike Libert, Dan Golden and Gary Lewis. He spent hours laughing and telling us stories from years past. From grouse hunting weekends, Packer games, vacations together, Canada trips and all the shenanigans from high school. He kept those people he loved close and they were a real treasure in his life.
Terry was hard working, dedicated, loyal and strove to be the best dentist possible. Over the years, the staff and patients of Oak Grove Dental became a second family to him. His staff held a special place in his heart, Susan Johnson, Tina Collins, Cheryl Melnarik, Sharon Buth and especially Lori Lessmiller, who has been by his side for 43 years. His witty sense of humor and compassion for his patients and staff will be missed dearly.
Terry is survived by and will be deeply missed by his wife, Judy (Jaekels) Watermolen; his four children: Todd (Christine) Watermolen, Megan Watermolen (fiance Tom Simcik), Teryn (Brent) Tilque and Alexandra (Matthew) Hockers; his seven adored grandchildren: Madalyn Watermolen, Ellie VanderLogt, Addison, Josephine and Patrick Tilque and Katherine and Anna Hockers; his mother-in-law Mary Lou Jaekels; his sister-in-law, Jan (Gary) Heiden; Judy's family: Jo (Michael) Johnson; Sally (Bill) Jansen; Jeffrey (Anne) Jaekels; Suzy (Beaver) Klinkner; Laurie (Jim) McCartney and Mary Jaekels.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Watermolen; brother, Lee (Butchy) Watermolen; sister, Sharon (Bob) Cashman; father-in-law, Judge John Jaekels, and brother-in-law, Jim Jaekels.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 2:00-6:00 pm Sunday, January 14. Parish wake service 5:30 pm Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop, after 10:00 am until time of Mass. Funeral Mass at 11:00 am Monday at the church with Fr. Tim Schillcox O.Praem officiating. Burial in the Allouez Cemetery. In lieu of floral expressions a memorial fund has been established in Terry's name. In your last days with us, we never left your side. Your strength and dignity stayed true to the end. Forever in our hearts. We love you. Until we meet again.
We would like to thank Unity Hospice. Although you were only with us a few days, your skills, compassion and kindness enabled Terry to remain at home.
