    Obituary:
Frank Robert Abendroth, age 82, passed away September 3, 2004 following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Appleton on February 16, 1922, the son of Frank and Selma Abendroth and spent most of his life here. He attended Lawrence University and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He served four years in the army from 1941-1945 posted in Washington, D.C. He was an enthusiastic and lifelong camper, boater, fisherman, and home hobbyist. He was happiest behind the wheel on the scenic route. He was a lover of music, particularly Classical and Jazz, achieving first chair violin status with the Lawrence University Orchestra and playing drums in a local band as a youth. He worked primarily as a salesman, at first selling office machines and had a long career with Prudential Insurance Company in Appleton. After his retirement he enjoyed working several jobs as a bus driver for the school system and Red Cross, also working as Risk Inspector for the Insurance Industry. Following his second retirement he worked as a Security Guard for the Sturgeon Bay Community Hospital where he and Catherine had a second home. He enjoyed traveling and visited his ancestral homeland, Germany, as well as his beloved Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Florida, and New York, but had a special love for Door County.
He is survived by his wife: Catherine Elizabeth Shinners; Sons: Robert (Kathleen) Abendroth, and Mark (Nancy) Abendroth; Daughters: Marty (Reed) Polzin, Peg (Jim) Carroll, Barb (Ron) Hvizdak, Bonnie (Dave) Heatwole, and Mary (Brian) Borkovec; Grandchildren: Abigail, Courtney, Amanda, Michael, Carlie, Hunter, Kyle, and Morgan; Sister-in-law: Eileen Shinners; and Brother-in-law: Jim (Ruth) Shinners.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Jane Weeden officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial fund.
