    Obituary:
    Robert George Vander Zanden, 87, Green Bay, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006. Born May 24, 1919, to the late George and Emma (Germiat) Vander Zanden, he married Janet Gillis in 1948, who preceded him in death in 1989. Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific Theatre on the USS Independence. He owned and operated J. Vander Zanden & Sons Jewelers. Robert was a lifelong member of St. Willebrord's Catholic Church, serving as a lay minister and for many years served at daily Mass. His service to the church and community included Grand Knight of Council 617, Faithful Navigator of the Marquette Assembly, District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus, President of the Green Bay Serra Club, District Governor of the Eastern Division Serra Club, President of Fox River Jewelers, Vice President of Wisconsin State Jewelers and President of the Green Bay Rotary. Robert was also a member of the American Legion and former member of Oneida Country Club. Robert is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Vander Zanden (Howard Fishkin); granddaughter, Katherine Fishkin; brother, Thomas (Marlene) Vander Zanden; a sister, Jeanne (Larry) DeGroot; sisters-in-law, Lois Vander Zanden, Marilyn (Jack) Mackin; nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norbert and John Vander Zanden and a sister-in-law, Marifrances Vander Zanden. Gathering time with family and friends will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at Schauer & Schumacher Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., from 4 p.m. until the Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at St. Willebrord's Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St., from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Ken DeGroot, O.Praem officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
    A Memorial Fund has been established in Robert's name. Online condolences may be expressed at www.schauer-schumacherfuneralhome.com
