    Obituary:
Menasha - Joan Clo Widmann died peacefully on the morning of April 14, 2018 at Oakridge Gardens due to complications from Alzheimer's. She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. Joan was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on July 9, 1924 to parents Abraham and Clo Stromberg. She graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1941. She met her future husband, Richard (Dick), in Fort Wayne, Indiana where and they were married on November 16, 1946. Joan gave birth to her first child, Cassandra, in Bloomington, Indiana, where Richard was attending Indiana University. Upon his graduation in 1952, the young family moved to Neenah, Wisconsin. Joan had two more children, Michael and Timothy, and happily lived the rest of her life in Neenah, tending to home, family, pets and friends.
Joan is survived by her three children, daughter Cassandra McGuire (Kevin) of Avon, Ohio; sons Michael (Robyn) of Glide, Oregon; and Timothy (Sharon) of Farmington Hills, Michigan. She is survived by two loving grandchildren, Eric and Sierra. Joan is also survived by George Cowling, her loving companion and friend of many years. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, and brother Dick.
Joan was always active outdoors even as Alzheimer's limited her abilities. She was known for her long walks around Kimberly Point where she would stop and chat with each and every one. In the summer months she spent time at her beloved Miner Lake cottage where she could be seen on her pedal boat making the rounds. She was active in the PTA, Cub Scouts, Lakeroad Lanes afternoon bowling league, and Bridgewood women's golf league. She was a devout Packer fan. Her first paid job, while in high school, was to babysit the children of the Green Bay Packers on game days. She enjoyed playing bridge with the same group of ladies for over 50 years. Joan proudly served as a longtime volunteer at Theda Clarke Hospital. Above all things, Joan was a wonderful mother who instilled in her children a strong sense of independence while never allowing oneself to be taken too seriously.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Oakridge Gardens and Valley VNA for their loving care over last few years. We also would like to thank Theda Care Hospice for their compassionate care and support. A very special thank you to Randy and Lisa Vohen for the kindness they have given over the years.
A service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Westgor Funeral Home, 205 W. Doty Avenue in Neenah. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow from 11:00 to 12:00 AM. A celebration of life will be held from 12:30 to 4:00 PM at the Best Western Bridgewood Hotel on Cameron Way in Neenah. All friends of Joan and friends of the family are welcome to attend the service and celebration.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan's name to Theda Care at Home Hospice Foundation at 3000 E College Avenue, #A, Appleton, Wisconsin, 54915. Donations may also be made, per Joan's request, to the Neenah Animal Shelter at 951 County Road G, Neenah, 54956.
