    Ted C. Fischer, age 85, passed away at his home in Appleton on Thursday, May 28, 2015.
    Ted was the first born of ten children on July 22, 1929 in Freedom to the late Charles and Helen (Thieman) Fischer. Ted attended school in Freedom and was taught to work very hard on the home farm. At the age of 20, he purchased his own farm in Freedom.
    On October 21, 1950 Ted married Dolores Ann Buettner at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. As Ted and Dolores were walking out of church, Ted's dad, Charlie said "you take good care of her". Ted proudly took good care of Dolores and his children.
    hile farming, Ted worked part time construction building homes for Milton Fischer. In 1960, Ted sold the farm and followed his passion for building homes, starting his own business, Ted C. Fischer Construction Co. Ted built residential and commercial properties. Many of the first homes Ted built were near St. Pius Catholic Church in Appleton where he also assisted in building the convent and rectory. As one drives around the Fox Cities area, many people would recognize his homes and say "here is a home that Ted built"! Ted's tools were always within reach and he loved helping the kids with numerous projects. Ted was a very kind, unselfish person who was well respected by his crew and all his subcontractors.
    Family was very important to Ted and he enjoyed spending time with all the kids and grandkids at their cottage on Shawano Lake which Ted also built. Snowmobiling was also one their favorite past times with family and friends and oh the stories they could tell!
    When Ted semi-retired, he and Dolores spent their winters in Florida where they entertained visitors and played sheepshead and shuffleboard.
    Ted is survived by his wife Dolores of 64 1/2 years.
    Sons: Dr. Donald C. Fischer and Tom Bozora; James and Janet (Phipps) Fischer and their children Ben, Nathan, Joseph, Teresa, Michael, Tommy and Vincent.
    Daughters: Sandy and Tim Weihing and their children; Dr. Jennifer (Diermeier) Knorr and Kraig and son Cameron; Michelle (Diermeier) Walter and Shawn and daughter Hannah; Caitlin Weihing. Nancy Forrest and her children Chris and Jenny Forrest and their children Clare and Reese; Laura (Forrest) Gruender and Brian and their children Alyssa, Ian, Makelie and Miles; Phillip Forrest and girlfriend Alex and her daughter Aiva; Sam Forrest and Desiree Forrest.
    Ted is further survived by his nine siblings: Dave (Marilyn) Fischer, Jerry Fischer, Mary (George) Sturm, Viola Gurnee, Charlene Gyrion, Helene (Glen) Derks, John (Sue) Fischer, Kay Fischer, Charles (Carmen) Fischer and brother-in-law: Richard Buettner as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Special friends to be remembered are Jeanine and Werner Koehler, Del and Joyce Tritt, Pat and Wayne Locy, all the Shawano Lake friends and many church friends Marilee Miller, Sister Betty and Sister Mary Rose.
    Ted was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Helen Fischer; Dolores' parents Frank and Alma (Geenen) Buettner; sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Fischer and Dol Buettner; brothers-in-law Frank Gurnee and Charles Gyrion.
    Ted's family would like to express sincere gratitude to Aseracare Hospice, especially Tammy, Jamie and Lisa also Home Helpers, especially Judy, Melissa, Heather and Holly for their passionate care for Ted and his wishes to remain at home with family. A special thank you to Father Jim and Father Falk for their support and love throughout the years.
    The funeral liturgy for Ted will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 5, 2015 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton. Fr. Jim Lucas and Fr. Gerald Falk will be officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Friday at church starting at noon until 1:45 pm. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.     Dad, as you struggled to remember people and various things, you recently asked me how my parents were doing. I told you they were doing well and that God blessed me with the best dad ever and I get to call YOU my dad. You smiled and said that was nice! Love you forever, Sandy.

    Viola M. Gurnee Appleton, Wisconsin - Viola Mae (Fischer) Gurnee, (81) of Appleton, WI. passed away on December 12, 2017. Vi was born May 15, 1936 in Seymour WI, she is the daughter of the late Charles and Helen Fischer. Vi married Franklin S. Gurnee on July 4, 1961. He preceded her in death in 2005.
    In her working years, Vi was employed at AMC Hospital. Enjoyed playing cards with her family, traveling and playing bingo.
    Vi is survived by her 3 children. Franklin (Amy) Gurnee of Appleton; Lisa (Kurt) Van Weele of Greenville and Jill (Mark) Lax of Menasha; five grandchildren: Matthew Van Weele, Melissa (Jason) Wagner, Adam Grambow, Alex Grambow, and Ashley Grambow.
    She will be deeply missed by her siblings.
    Proceeded in death by her parents, husband Franklin and son John Robert Gurnee, brother Theodore Fischer, brother-in-law Charles Gyrion and sister-in-law Betty Fischer.
    A private memorial service for Vi will be held. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Fox Valley Humane Association or American Cancer Society.

    John Robert Gurnee, age 46, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on November 23, 2012. John had a brief and hard-fought battle with respiratory problems.
    John was born in Appleton on April 26, 1966, son of Franklin and Viola (Fischer) Gurnee. He graduated from Appleton West High School in 1984, and was a lifelong Appleton resident. He was employed at the Speedway Gas Station until his health problems arose.
    John was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Reggie White had always been his favorite player. He enjoyed collecting and drawing action figures, such as Thor, and proudly displayed them for people to enjoy. He also enjoyed collecting cars and video games. Many will remember seeing John around town on his motor scooter, walking his dog, and stopping to talk to anyone would listen to him. John was a rather private person, but absolutely always put his family first.
    Survivors include his mother: Viola Gurnee of Appleton; a brother: Bud Gurnee of Appleton; two sisters: Lisa (Kurt) Van Weele of Greenville and Jill Gurnee and her friend Mark Lax of Menasha; five nieces and nephews: Matthew Van Weele, Melissa Van Weele and her fiancé Jason Wagner, Adam Grambow, Alex Grambow, and Ashley Grambow; a special friend: Russell Rybarczyk who was also there to spend time with John as he battled his illness; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. John also had two canine companions - Sam and Eros - who kept him going while on walks. He was preceded in death by his father Franklin S. Gurnee; his grandparents: Charles and Helen Fischer and Seely and Sylvia Gurnee.
    A memorial service for John will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton, with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Fox Valley Humane Association.
    The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the many caregivers who watched over John. They include Dr. Pahl, Dr. Partain, Dr. Kuplic, the Gold Cross medics, and the emergency department at St. Elizabeth Hospital. We will never forget your kindness.
