    Marie A. Hamm, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday October 14, 2016 at Cranberry Court Assisted Living with her family by her side.
    Funeral services for Marie will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday October 20, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Father Valentine Joseph will officiate the service. The family will greet relatives and friends at Ritchay Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Thursday morning at the church from 11:00- 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.
    Marie was born in the town of Carson on March 3, 1922. She was the 4th of 10 children of Anthony and Anna (Joosten) Johnson. Marie married Donald Hamm on June 21, 1947 at St. Philip Catholic Church in Rudolph, WI. Marie and Donald were married 53 years until his death in March 2001.
    Marie had a deep love of her Catholic faith and was active in many areas of the church as a charter member of the parish, St. Mary's Womens Club and was a CCD teacher for several years. For Marie, the Rudolph Grotto Gardens were a special place which had many happy memories for her such as school days, her wedding day and many family reunions.
    Marie loved to bake and anyone who tasted her buns, rolls, doughnuts, etc, would tell you she was the best at it. Most importantly it brought the neighborhood together as much of her baking was delivered by her children to neighbors, friends, family and the sisters of Our Lady Queen of Heaven School. Birthdays were made especially nice for her children as they chose the meal and their favorite cake. Her garden was a great source of pride and she and her husband Don worked on it together. All of their best produce went to friends and neighbors. Marie filled those who knew her with love and joy. She had a quiet kindness and sweet easy going nature. She was very fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time reading with them, putting together puzzles and watching thunderstorms on the front porch, playing cards, dice games, berry picking, taking walks, and baking and decorating roll out cookies. If she saw her grandchildren sneaking frosting or cookie dough she would smile and whisper that little bit won't hurt. She also had a knack for rolling snake eyes and with a shake of her head she would look up at her opponent and say "honestly." Marie had quite a charming way about her and her eyes always seemed to have a twinkle.
    Marie is survived by her children Janet Ermilio of Wisconsin Rapids, James (Linda) Hamm of Wisconsin Rapids, Jerry (Gloria) Hamm of Neilsville, John (Sue) Hamm of Rudolph, Joani (Michael) Peterson of Libby, MT, Jane (Alan) Bauer of Waupaca and Al (Bonnie) Hamm who was a special son to her. Marie is also survived by 15 grandchildren Nicki (Gerry) Rickaby, Brent (Rachel) Hamm, Barry (Dara) Hamm, Kimberly Hamm, Amanda (Mark) Jiskra, Jenna (Josh) Ziegler, Olivia Hamm, Krista Hamm, Victor Boldon, Beth Peterson, Darcy Peterson, Kacie Peterson, Erin Bauer, Patrick Bauer and Emily Bauer. She is further survived by 14 great-grandchildren Colton Rickaby, Karli Rickaby, Payton Hamm, Lucas Hamm, Caleb Hamm, Katie Roidt, Kylee Hamm, Kalan Hamm, Jack Hediger, Owen Hediger, Beau Hediger, Reese Ziegler, William Ziegler, and Claire Ziegler; three siblings Lois Bathke, Jane Johnson and Jerry (Darlene) Johnson.
    Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Anna (Joosten) Johnson, husband Donald, son Joseph, six siblings Harry Johnson, Earl Johnson, Clayton Johnson, Millie Steege, Hazel Kampschoer and Armelda Koller.
    With Marie's passing we lose a strong, loving and generous woman, who was cute as a button and devoted to God and her family. She taught us to take pleasure in the simple things and to keep pushing forward no matter what life puts in our path. Marie will always be remembered within our hearts for her patience, kindness and inner strength. You will be missed and the hole you leave behind in our hearts will not mend easily. We will love you forever. Rest in peace.
    Special thanks to the Aspirus Hospice team for the wonderful and expedient care of our mom. To the caregivers at Cranberry Court for their loving care of our mom these pasts nine and a half years. It was all very greatly appreciated.
    Memorials may be designated to Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
