Obituary:
Richard (Dick) DeBruin, formerly of Hingham, died Friday, Dec. 16 at a Brookline nursing home. Dick was born in Neenah, Wisconsin, to Frank and Virginia DeBruin and attended Columbia University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and the University of Wisconsin. He married Yvonne (Meyers) June 23, 1955. He served as a veteran of World War II and worked as an editor at many publishing houses, including Rand McNally, Scott Foresman, Wiley and Sons, and Houghton Mifflin. His second career was with Shared Financial Services, where he retired at 80. Dick was past president of St. Pauls parish council, a former K of C and Lions member, and for the past twenty years a bass singer in St. Pauls choir. He was an active member in the Massachusetts Historical Society, and a contributor to the Hingham Historical Society. In his spare time he was writing an exhaustive biographical novel on Hingham resident Benjamin Lincoln and other figures in the Revolution. Dick is predeceased by his wife, Yvonne. He is survived by his sisters Elaine Killian of Neenah, WI, Judy and husband Mike Zerby of Fridley, MN, and brother Vern and wife Pat of Appleton, WI; sons Richard (Rick) Jr. and wife Michelle of Augusta, ME, Peter and wife Donna, of Bridgewater, and David and wife Margaret, of Brookline. Survivors also include six grandchildren; Dan of Falmouth, Maine, Liz of Boston, Mike and Emily, of Bridgewater, and Jonas and Ruby, of Brookline, and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Monday, Dec. 19, at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home in Hingham, from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Pauls Catholic Church Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Pauls Cemetery, in Hingham.
