    Biography:
WILLIAM P. COTTER, who carries on general farming on an eighty-acre tract of good land lying in Grand Chute township, was born November 6, 1882, in Center township, Outagamie county, Wisconsin, and is a son of James and Julia (Mullen) Cotter. James Cotter, who was also a native of Center township, where he was born about 1857, grew to manhood in that locality and became a landowner, but later removed to Appleton, where for a number of years he served as deputy sheriff. He then came to Grand Chute township, purchased a farm, and carried on agiticultural operations until his death in 1902. His widow, who was born in Osborn township, is still living here. They had a family of six children, namely: John, a farmer, residing with his mother in this township; William P.; Ella, single, residing at home; May, the wife of Robert McGinnis, a farmer of Grand Chute township; George, a farmer of North Dakota; and James, who lives with his mother. William P. Cotter secured his education in St. Mary's School at Appleton and the district schools of Grand Chute township, and at the age of thirteen years began working as a farm hand, continuing at this occupation until his marriage. At this time he settled on the farm which he now occupies, a fine property of eighty acres of well-improved land, on which he has carried on general farming with much success. He is a member of the Roman Catholic Church, and in political matters is a Democrat. On September 7, 1905, Mr. Cotter was married to Clara Schroeder, who was born in Grand Chute township, on what is known as Spencer Road, May 15, 1888, daughter of George and Mary (Gruebe) Schroeder, the latter of whom was born on the farm now occupied by Mr. Cotter, December 25, 1863, and the former at Neenah, Wisconsin, March 15, 1858. Mr. Schroeder, who was always a farmer, resided at what is known as Mud Creek until 1896, and in that year purchased the farm now cultivated by Mr. Cotter, and here he lived until 1907, then removing to Appleton, where he and Mrs. Schroeder now live retired. Mrs. Cotter was their only child. One child has been born to Mr. and Mrs. Cotter, namely: Lucile, born June 9, 1906.

Lyle was born in 1931 in Appleton, WI, to Lyle A. and Rose (Heimmermann) McGinnis, and was raised in Kaukauna, where he attended St. Mary Grade School and Kaukauna High School. Lyle had 47 years of experience in environmental geology and geophysics research and education. Most of his early years were spent in academia where he served in Geology departments as a faculty member and as Chairman at Northern Illinois (1967-83) and Louisiana State (1983-85) Universities. Much of his academic research focused on geophysical projects in the Antarctic. He spent 1.5 years as a seismologist with the U.S. Victoria Land Traverse Party wintering-over in Antarctica during the International Geophysical Year from 1957 to 1959, and he spent an additional 14 polar summers in Antarctica from 1969 to 1985. During this period, he served as the National Science Foundation U.S. coordinator for the International Dry Valley Drilling Project in Antarctica, a joint research effort between New Zealand, Japan, and the U.S. He received the National Science Foundation Antarctic Service Award in 1960 and as a result of his impact on early Antarctic research, a mountain peak located within the Transantarctic Mountain range was named McGinnis Peak. Lyle was also appointed as U.S. Representative to the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research on solid earth geophysics from 1985 to 1989. Lyle spent 6 years with the Illinois State Geological Survey (1960-66) and finished his career at Argonne National Laboratory (1985-98) as a Senior Scientist researching environmental geology and geophysics issues. He also spent 1.5 years in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1966-67 as a technical expert with the United Nations Development Program conducting geophysical studies to better understand ground water quality. Lyle received a B.S. in Physics from St. Norbert College in 1954. While at St. Norbert, he played on the football team and ran track, receiving the outstanding athlete award for both sports his senior year. In 2007, he also received the Outstanding Educator award from St. Norbert. Lyle received a M.Sc. in Geophysics from St. Louis University in 1960, and a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Illinois in 1965.
