    Obituary:
    Wendt, Walter J. Appleton Age 92, passed away in Appleton on Monday, May 03, 2004. He was born in the Town of Grand Chute on October 15, 1911, son of the late Henry and Bertha (Schroeder) Wendt. On August 8, 1946 he married Leona Schwab in Appleton. She preceded him in death on November 9, 1994. Walter was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Appleton. He graduated from Bowlbys Business College in Appleton. Walter was employed by North American Seed Company for 10 years in Milwaukee before entering the Army during WWII where he served in Belgium, England, and France. During the Battle of the Bulge he was a prisoner of war of Germany, but escaped after surviving the Malmedy Massacre where he earned the purple heart. He was then employed by the Appleton School System at the old and new Edison Schools as an engineer for many years until retiring in 1977. Walter was a member of Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of the American Legion.
    Walter is survived by his children: Gerald (Beverly) Wendt of Appleton and Donald (Judith) Wendt of Neenah; a stepson: Kenneth (Gloria) Harrmann of Appleton; grandchildren: Michelle (Scott) Cartwright and their children: Nicholas and Marissa; and Jason (Fiancé, Tamara Lund) Wendt; step grandchildren: Rachel (Jay) Fredrickson and their children Cheyenne and Sierah; Rebecca (Rick) Mertens, and Ron (Melissa) Samp; special nephew, Rodney (Kathy) Wendt; and a sister-in-law, Louise Shaw. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
    Walter is preceded in death by his wife Leona, his parents; brothers: George and Harry Wendt; sisters: Linda Ziegler and Rose Plamann.
    The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Appleton, with Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Highland Memorial Park.
    A memorial fund in Walters name is being established for St. Paul Lutheran Church.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Appleton Medical Center, Carolina Manor, and Franciscan Care Center for their care of Walter.
    "We watched you grow so tired, Dad, with every passing day, and our hearts have grown more heavy as we saw you fade away. And then we knew the time had come for us to let you go, to say our last good-bye to you and say, "We love you so."

    Ziegler, Earl H.
    Earl H. Ziegler, Appleton, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. Earl was born in the town of Freedom on Sept. 27, 1917, son of the late Walter and Linda (Wendt) Ziegler. On Feb. 7, 1947, he married the former Joyce Jentz. Joyce preceded him in death in May of 1992. Earl spent his life working as a carpenter and cabinet builder in the area. He was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church where he was also a longtime leader of the boy Pioneer program. During World War II, he served his country as a member of the United States Army, 3rd Armored Division, and saw action as a tank driver throughout Europe. He was also a member of American Legion Post #55 and was a part of some of the fighting which resulted in freeing prisoners from Nazi concentration camps. Earl enjoyed gardening, fishing, and golfing in his younger years.
    He is survived by three children, Lynn (Roger) Naniot, Waukesha; Sherry (Tim) Murphy, Appleton; and Brad (Amy) Ziegler, Seneca, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Shawn (Jenny) Murphy, Melissa Murphy, Ashley (Joe) Lauer, Kevin Murphy, Rachel Funte, Nathaniel Funte, and Sarah Ziegler; four great-grandchildren, Kade and Shayla Pena and Meadow and Brecken Murphy; two sisters, Ramona Schroeder, Appleton; and Lois (Melvin "Bud") Wohlrabe. Manawa; a brother, Lloyd (Ione) Ziegler, Hortonville; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Schroeder, Appleton; and a sister-in-law, Beth Ziegler, Hortonville.
    Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joyce; a sister, Phyllis Schroeder; a brother, Elroy Ziegler; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Schroeder.
    The Christian Funeral for Earl will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street, Appleton, with Rev. Kenneth Frey and Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday (TODAY) from 5 to 7 p.m. and again at the church on Tuesday morning after 10 a.m.
    "Thank you, Dad, for passing on to us the most important thing we can own - faith in God. It is priceless. We will be with you in heaven one day."

    Lloyd W. Ziegler, age 80, Hortonville, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at his residence following a courageous 4 year battle with cancer. Lloyd was born on April 13, 1933, in Appleton son of the late Walter and Linda (Wendt) Ziegler. On October 1, 1955, he was united in marriage to Ione Wismer in Hortonville. Lloyd was a retired building contractor and formerly owned Hortonville Lumber Company. He also did farming and cash cropping. He was a longtime member of the Hortonville Lions Club. He was also a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hortonville; where he held several church offices. He enjoyed his cottage with his family, watching his grandchildren's sporting events and the Packers.
    He is survived by his wife Ione; 4 sons: Dan (Sue) Ziegler, Hortonville; Mark (Jayne) Ziegler, Hortonville; Paul (Yvonne) Ziegler, Hortonville; Todd (Jody) Ziegler, Appleton; 2 sisters, Ramona Schroeder, Appleton and Lois (Bud) Wohlrabe, Manawa; sister in-law Beth Ziegler, Hortonville. Twelve grandchildren: Daniel, Matthew, Cory (special friend, Joan), Kendra (Andy) Christensen, Troy, Kristen, Trevor, Breanna, Jared, Ryan, Samuel and Zachary; 1 great grandchild Haidyn and also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive Lloyd.
    He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Earl (Joyce) and Elray; a sister, Phyllis (Lloyd) Schroeder; brother in-law, Ralph Schroeder.
    Funeral services for Lloyd will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hortonville with Rev. Joel Jenswold officiating. Visitation will be held at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home, Hortonville on Sunday (TODAY) from 12 - 3p.m. And also at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
    In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for ThedaCare Hospice and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Goggins and his wonderful staff and ThedaCare Hospice with special thanks to nurse Mary.
