    Obituary:
Beata Huss passed away peacefully on Monday October 9, 2017 at the age of 94. She was born January 14, 1923 in Kaukauna, the only daughter of the late Otto and Pearle (Dietzler) Aufreiter. She grew up in Kaukauna and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1940. She studied nursing at St. Scholastica College in Duluth, MN, and Marquette University in Milwaukee, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She was a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee from 1944-45. She was a nurse at the Outagamie County Nurses Office, as a school nurse, and as a nurse at Thilmany Pulp and Paper, Kimberly Clark, Appleton Paper and Combined Locks Paper (now Appleton Coated).
Beata married Bernard Busse in June of 1947, and together they raised four children until his death in 1960. She then was a single mom, raising the four children in Kaukauna, until she met Russell Huss. Together they raised their blended "Brady Bunch" family of five children on the farm outside of Freedom. They enjoyed over 50 years of wedded bliss, and would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary later this month.
Beata was very active, being involved in golf (well into her 80's, including a hole-in-one at age 80 in Arizona), past member of Mid Valley Golf Club (past president of the Tuesday Ladies Eye Opener League), playing bridge several times a month, Ladies Knights of Columbus groups, a member of St. Nicholas Church, member of the choir at Hallmark Place, and other groups. She was always very welcoming in her home (whether at the farm, in Arizona, or their apartment in Kimberly) with snacks at the ready whenever a guest dropped in. She was slowed down a little by hip surgery a couple years ago, but it didn't dampen her spirit or energy. Beata's mother was one of the original organizers of the Kaukauna Alumni Association, believed to be one of the oldest alumni groups in the country, which is very active in giving out scholarships to Kaukauna students.
Beata is survived by her husband, Russell; her daughters and son, Kathy Peterson, Jeanne (Bud) Treml, Tom (Diane Nackers) Busse, and Sherry (Pat) Buck; grandchildren, Brian Peterson (special friend Jennifer Ponfil), Mike (Jennifer) Peterson, David Peterson (special friend Erin Ziemer), Michelle (Teague) Maxfield, Trisha (Jean) Boussari, Ryan Treml, Jacqueline (Brian) Garcia, Damon (Amy) Busse, Matt (Tracy) Buck, and Anjy (Jeff) Vogel; great-grandchildren, Molli and Maggie Peterson; Nick, Josh and Sam Peterson; Cadence, Keegan and Braden Maxfield; Lucille and Bascom Garcia; Otto and Frank Busse; Loretta and William Buck; and another great-grandchild due in November; along with Russell's daughter, Sue Sawitski; her children, Tracy (Mark) Kollock and Scott (Michele) Sawitski; Sue's grandson, Russell Kollock; and granddaughters, Claire and Tess Sawitski. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Elaine Vandenberg and Darlene Newhouse; and close friends, Mary Van Dera, Jeremy and Amanda Van Dera, Jesse and Stacy Van Dera, and Jenna and Chris Carlson.
Beata was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Bernard; her mothers and fathers-in-law, Otto and Victoria Busse and Albert and Cecilia Huss; brothers-in-law and their wives, Kenneth and Beverly Busse, Victor and Rosemary Busse and Glenn and Rosemary Huss; brothers-in-law, John Vandenberg and Robert Newhouse; nephew Richard Huss; and son-in-law Don Peterson.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 at ST. NICHOLAS PARISH (W2037 County Road S, Freedom) beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:00 Noon. The Rev. Willard Vande Loo will officiate. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kaukauna Alumni Association.
