    Joseph Chopin Is Dead - Was City Attorney of Kaukauna for Nine Years. leav es Wife and Two Children. Funeral Will be Held Saturday From Holy Cross Ca tholic Church.After being dangerously ill for several weeks Joseph Chopin died early Tue sday morning at his home on Sarah St. Mr. Chopin suffered nearly a year wi th rheumatism and a few weeks ago was taken suddenly ill so that he was co nfined to his bed. The sickness developed into pneumonia which result ed in an abcess of the lung so that an operation was performed last Saturd ay as a last resort to save his life. But all in vain, and Mr. Chopin sa nk rapidly until Tuesday when he became partially unconscious.Joseph Chopin was born at Duck Creek, Brown county on February 7, 1871 a nd came to Kaukauna with his parents in 1874. He grew up here and attend ed Holy Cross parochial school during his boyhood. A sad experience in M r. Chopin's life came in his seventeenth yearwhen he had the hand of his r ight arm completely severed by a paper machine in the Badger paper mill, t he accident happening the first morning he began work. This accident shap ed Mr. Chopin's future career for at once he reentered school finishing t he grade work and entered high school, graduating in 1895. Soon after grad uating, he entered Kent college of law of Chicago. He made a fine reco rd of law, completing his diploma in 1897. He then came to Kaukauna and be came a member of the law firm of Dawson & Chopin. After two years the fi rm was dissolved since which time he has been alone. He has been city atto rney for the past nine years. Mr. Chopin has held various offices of publ ic trust besides having been city attorney and alderman. His legal busine ss has grown within the last few years both in volume and importance. Jose ph Chopin was a charter member of Holy Cross Catholic Order of Foresters a nd also of Kaukauna Council of Knights of Columbus being advocate at the t ime of his death. He was chief Ranger of the Foresters for two years. No o ne in Kaukauna had a wider acquaintanceship locally than Joseph Chopin a nd few had as many friends. Joseph Chopin overcame his physical handic ap by untiring industry and persistance and his frank open face and kind ly disposition gained him many warm friends and companions. As soon as h is death was known to Mayor Martens ordered the flags on the city buildin gs to be put at half mast and called a special meeting of alderman to ma ke arrangements to attend the funeral.Joseph Chopin was married six years ago to Miss Anna Van Abel who with the ir two children Harold, of 4 years and Beatrice of ten months, are le ft to mourn his loss. Others surviving him are his parents, Mr. & Mr s. J. Chopin of this city; four sisters and two brothers as follows; Mr s. Susie Berens, Will Chopin of Kaukauna; John Chopin and Mrs. Alice He lf of Millinocket, Maine; Katie of Boston, mass.; and Anna of Portlad, Mai ne.
