1905 Kaukauna Times dated 10/27/1905; Martin Weyenberg of Freedom was fou nd guilty by a jury consisting of Thom. Earles, Mike Keelan, Peter Essle r, John Schulties, Peter Eimmermann and O.H. Runte of assault and batter y. The complaining witness was Theodore Micke. The case was the outgrow th of a quarrel that occured last week. The jury rendered a verdict aft er 1/2 an hour.

Kaukauna Doctor Shows Improvement Kankauna - Dr. E. A. Mayer, who was seriously injured in an accident Tuesday afternoon, at the intersection of County Trunks J and S in the town of Freedom, was reported improved this morning. Dr. Mayer suffered several fractured ribs and numerous cuts and bruises. The accident occurred about 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Henry Garvey, 35, an occupant of the machine with which Dr. Mayer's automobile collided, was fatally injured in the crash. Her husband and child sustained minor injuries.

KimberlyAge 96, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Manor Care, Appleton. Vett w as born on November 30, 1905, in Rudolph, Wisconsin, to the late Pet er J. and Helen (Van Ert) Weyenberg. Vett was a bookbinder in California f or many years, returning to Kimberly upon his retirement 1979. He served h is country in the United States Air Force during World War II. Vett w as a very proud American and made a large donation to the City of New Yo rk after the 9/11 tragedy. He was an avid bowler, golfer and card playe r. Vett enjoyed spending time with his family and was known for his wonder ful sense of humor and appreciation of life. Survivors include his broth er Harold T. Weyenberg, Menasha; his sisters, Agnes Dupont, Kaukauna and D orothy M. Fox, Appleton; his sisters-in-law: Edith Weyenberg, Waukegan, Il linois; and Anna Weyenberg, Kimberly; many nieces and nephews. He was prec eded in death by his brothers: John T., Louis H., Royal F., and Benedict W eyenberg and his brothers-in-law, Joseph Dupont, and Fred J. She was born in Dousman, Wisconsin on September 21, 1907, da ughter of the late Peter and Helen (Van Ert) Weyenberg of Kimberly. Agn es attended Holy Name Grade School in Kimberly and on September 4, 1928 ma rried Joseph Dupont at Holy Name. Prior to her marriage to Joe, she work ed at the Kimberly Clark "Club House." During that long and happy marriag e, Agnes enjoyed her home and cottage on Lake Winneconne, where she entert ained her seven children, friends, neighbors, and relatives. For many year s, she provided a happy week at the lake for her thirty-one grandchildr en - fishing, water skiing, playing games, and eating. She was known for h er good cooking, her sewing skills, and many acts of kindness. Agnes was t he neighborhood jack of all trades who removed cinders from eyes, diagnos ed illnesses, cut kids' hair, bathed new babies, counseled those in neede d, and provided food and solace at funerals. Ann Simon, 93, Little Chute, died peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Parkside Care Center, Little Chute, with her children and godchild, Nancy, by her side. She was born Sept. 12, 1914, in Freedom, daughter of the late Matthew and Elizabeth (Gerrits) Weyenberg. She married Arthur Simon on Feb. 28, 1935, and he preceded her in death Oct. 16, 1984. Together they farmed and later owned and operated Simon Cheese Factory for many years. Ann was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, along with their Resurrection Choir. She also was a member of the Golden Agers. Ann enjoyed sports, especially the Packers and Badgers, along with playing cards and the occasional trip to the casino.
Ann is survived by a daughter, Sr. Clare, Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, Green Bay; a son, David (Judy) Simon, Little Chute; four grandchildren, Sarah Simon, Doug (Renee) Simon, Chris (Sarah) Simon and Susan (Robert) Samuels; ten great-grandchildren, Aubree, Olivia, Santana, Isaiah, Emary, Isidore and Alexia Simon and Jaden, Kendyl and Alyssa Samuels; in-laws, Theresa and Ivol Vanden Heuvel, Marion (Cooney) Simon, Tony Simon and Irene Simon; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; parents, sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Arthur DeWildt; brothers and sister-in-law, John and Hattie Weyenberg; and Raymond and Esther Weyenberg. Henry W. Van Den Broek, 76, a lifetime resident of this city and a long time employee of the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company before his retirement, died Wednesday morning, June 10, at. St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, following a long illness. Mr. Van Den Broek of 600 W. 7th St., was born April 22, 1905 in Kaukauna. After many years of employment, he retired from Thilmany in 1967. He was a member of the Thilmany Quarter Century Club and the Catholic Knights.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine, Kaukauna; one son, Clayton [Carp] Van Den Broek of Kaukauna; two sisters, Mrs. Frank [Francis] Ruiz of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Marie Vanden Heuvel of Three Lakes; two grandchildren; two step daughters, Mrs. Cornelius [Rita] Vander Pas of Appleton, and Mrs. Vincent [Helen] Zacharias of Wrightstown; and two step sons, Linus and Cletus Schaefer, both of Kaukauna.

She preceded him in death on December 25, 200 0. They raised three children together. Gene and Polly enjoyed music, danc ing and playing cards. After retiring fr om farming, he worked at Freedom High School as a custodian and Swinkles b ussing, where he enjoyed the kids as much as they enjoyed him. Orville enj oyed many years at his hunting cabin in Neilsville. He was a member of S t. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, The Knights of Columbus, St. Nichol as Church Choir, and the Freedom Volunteer Fire Department. Clyde W. Weyenberg, 85, formerly of Freedom, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, at St. Paul's Home in Kaukauna. He was born in Freedom on April 25, 1924, to the late John and Jane (Hooyman) Weyenberg. He was a graduate of Freedom High School and married Ardene Plamann on July 18, 1942. In 1943, he joined the Army Air Corp to serve his country during World War II and spent most of his time in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He was released on Dec. 7, 1945.
Clyde worked numerous jobs during his life. He operated a can milk route, operated the Freedom Bowling Alley and the VFW Bar for many years. Great times were had and many lifelong friends were developed at the bowling alley and the bar. The last part of his career was spent at Miller Electric where he retired after 27 years. Clyde was very active in activities and events in Freedom. To name a few, he managed fast and slow-pitch softball teams, was town assessor, was on the Board of Freedom High School, held many positions in the VFW Post 7692 and served the St. Nicholas Church community as a Fourth Degree Honor Guard, a lector and in the choir. He was a charter member of the Freedom Lions and also belonged to the Little Chute American Legion.
Clyde is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ardene; two daughters, Sharon (Jim) Greiner and Diane (Ernie) Johnson; five grandchildren, Jeff (Stacey) Greiner, Jill (Dick) Vosters, Tina (Steve) Van Rossum, Greg (Megan) VandeWettering and Tami Skenandore; and 14 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Emily, Alivia, Sami Adam, Leah, Cody, Abby, Ben, Brad, Jenna, Megan, Jalyn and Devon. He is also survived by in-laws, Margie Weyenberg, Lee Spletter, Leola Lutz, Duke (Char) Plamann, Gene Stephani; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Immediately following Mass, there will be a military honors program. Private entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

Donald Vernon Weyenberg, age 82 of Green Bay, Village of Howard, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015. Don was born in Oneida, WI on April 21, 1933 to the late Peter and Josephine Weyenberg. He was the youngest of 14 children. Don graduated from West High School where he enjoyed playing football and attending his class reunions throughout the years.
Don served our country as a Private First Class in the Army during the Korean Conflict. On April 3, 2014, Don attended the Old Glory Honor Flight with his son Mark.
Don married Carol Marie Evrard on May 11, 1957 at St. Patrick Church in Stiles, WI. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage and raised 3 children.
Don enjoyed being with his family and friends. He enjoyed dancing the jitter bug, playing softball, hunting, summers up at Rollingstone Lake. He also enjoyed coaching football, little league and track. In 1998, Don and Marie moved to Beecher, WI where they enjoyed many years of golfing and spending time with family and many friends. He also enjoyed 15 winters spent in Golf Shores, Alabama.
Don expressed a faith in Christ and attended church regularly.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Marie; sister, Mary Botdorf; son, Mark (Laurie) Weyenberg; daughters, Lisa (Jim) Chevalier; Patti (Wally) Martin; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and 12 siblings.

She married Peter Van Boxtel on June 15, 1937 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton, and he preceded her in death less than one month ago, August 13, 2002. Willie was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. She enjoyed playing cards, baking and throwing a batch of homemade candy together to share with family and friends. Her most time-consuming hobby was picking and cleaning hickory nuts. She was always able to sell all the hickory nuts; however, Willie always kept some for her family. Her most cherished time was spent at the cottage, surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Walter Heiss Margaret M. Heiss, age 92, of Appleton, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at Grand Horizons Care Center following a short illness. Margaret was born January 20, 1914, in Freedom, the daughter of the late Patrick and Dorothy (Weyenberg) Murphy. She resided in Appleton for most of her life and attended Appleton High School. On August 30, 1935, Margaret was united in marriage to Walter Heiss, sharing 62 years together before his death on October 29, 1997.Margaret was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a 30 year member of St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary.She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Margaret loved to knit and had a special talent for knitting beautiful Afghans which she gave to family and friends. Marie K Van Dehy, age 91, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Freedom on July 1, 1924 to the late Patrick and Dorothy (Weyenberg) Murphy. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1942, she married Martin Van Dehy, and they resided in Kimberly. Marie worked for several years at Kimberly Clark and then for ten years at the Appleton Post Office as a rural mail carrier until she retired in 1986. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards and reading.
She is survived by her children; Patrick (Cindy), James (Mary), Joseph (Sue) and Carol (Kevin) Henning, grandchildren; Dave, Steve, Tammy, Brian, Alex, Kyla, Casey, Lee, Jacob, Jesse and Taylor as well as numerous great grandchildren. Marie is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, especially Bob and Judy Henning, "They were always there when I needed them".
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Martin, Son, Michael, brothers; Ignasious "Nace", Patrick, James and Joseph, sisters; Dorothy and Margaret.

Alma P. Weyenberg, 98, of Little Chute, passed away peacefully Monday, December 9, 2013. She was born October 22, 1915, in Freedom, daughter of the late Henry and Josie (Weyenberg) Garvey. On January 21, 1936, Alma was united in marriage to Clarence "Duce" Weyenberg. Together they lived in Little Chute and ran a beer depot for 16 years and later ran a tavern, "River Bar" (Down the Hill), for 15 years. Alma spent many years going to Florida. She volunteered her time at Parkside Nursing Home for Masses on Friday's and sang with the Resurrection Choir that she and Nick Vander Pas started over 30 years ago. Alma worked at the Mission Club for 28 years, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Golden Agers. She loved to make quilts and afghans. Her joy was her beautiful yard and never forgot the decorations for all the holidays. She was never late for anything!

Vance Garvey (Bud), Sr., of Freedom, age 86 years, passed away early Sunday morning, February 25, 2007, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born April 7, 1920, in Freedom, the son of the late Henry and Josephine (Weyenberg) Garvey. On August 5, 1941, Vance married Dolores Hopfensberger at St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna. He served his country in World War II, European Theater. Bud was a lifetime member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom and served as an usher for many years.
Vance started his sheet metal work at Joe Geenen's General Store. Bud was the owner/operator of Garvey Sheet Metal for many years and later Garvey Lawn and Marine till 1963. He was then employed as the heating department manager at US Oil for 25 years. Mark Kerkhoff and Bud founded the Freedom Sanitary District #1 and he served as president for over 36 years. He designed and manufactured the Freedom Fuel Saver wood stove for Freedom Stove Company.
Vance was a member of the American Legion Jacob Coppus Post #258, Little Chute; Freedom VFW Post #7692; The 95th Infantry Division Association and Fox Valley Golf Club. He was a former member of the Freedom Knights of Columbus, Freedom Lion's Club and Freedom Fire Department. Bud loved to hunt, fish and golf and looked forward to the trips to Canada.
Bud is survived by his sons: Vance, Jr. (Pat) Garvey, Appleton and Thomas H. Esther Tousey, age 94, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at her home at the Appleton Retirement Community on Friday, February 8, 2013. Esther was born in Kaukauna on July 18, 1918 to the late William and Martha (Green) Weyenberg. She worked at the Zwicker Knitting Mill for many years. Esther also worked in the deli at Austins and worked for the hot lunch program at St. Pius for many years.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, February 16, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W Marquette St., Appleton, with Father Tom Farrell officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 10 am until the time of mass. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Shirley F. Golden, formerly of Appleton, age 80, died peacefully on Thursday June 18, 2009, at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. Shirley was born April 23, 1929, in Appleton to the late William and Martha (Green) Weyenberg. On November 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Golden at St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton. The couple has enjoyed 59 years together. In her younger years, Shirley was active with the Girl Scouts as a Troop Leader. She was also active at St. Pius Catholic Church, Appleton, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. Robert "Bob" M. Murphy, age 83, of Freedom, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Rennes Health Center in Appleton. He was born October 5, 1928, in Freedom, to the late Frank and Johanna (Weyenberg) Murphy.
Bob graduated from Freedom High School and was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom.
He married Judith Potts on July 2, 1976. She preceded him in death on March 22, 1978.
Bob resided in Freedom his entire life, where he raised three children. He owned and operated Bob Murphy Trucking for many years until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was known to be a Milwaukee Brewers fan.
Survivors include his 2 daughters: Valarie (Jason) Wunderlich of Greenville and Veronica (Russ) Zuleger of Shawano; son Kurt (Lisa) Murphy of Freedom; 7 grandchildren: Amanda, Mackenzie, Travis, Jarrett, Cole, Samantha, and Owen; 2 brothers: Marty (Pat) Murphy and Francis "Scrub" (Terese) Murphy both of Freedom. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Judy; grandson Tim Amerson: 2 brothers: Edwill and Jack Murphy; 2 sisters: Johanna Murphy and Frances (Floyd) Reiland.

Francis "Scrub" James Murphy, 82, of Freedom, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on, Wednesday, October 23, 2013. He was born August 21, 1931 to Frank and Rosella (Weyenberg) Murphy, in Freedom. Francis was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. He was united marriage to "the best girl in Freedom", Theresa Mae Williamson on April 26, 1955, celebrating 58 years of marriage this year.
Francis was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will be dearly missed. He was extremely proud of his children and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and would get a little misty-eyed through tears of joy as he watched the surprised and happy faces on his children when they opened that special gift that he couldn't wait for 'Santa' to bring them. He was a handy man who could always fix whatever was broken. When his children got older, he became a 'general contractor' helping each of his children to build their homes. He and Theresa enjoyed many years of being together and bringing up the kids, with the exception of the heartbreaking tragedy on October 3, 1971, when their seven-year-old daughter, Mary Kay, was struck and killed by a car in front of their home.
Francis was employed by Miller Electric Corp. in Appleton for 38 years, retiring in 1993.
Francis is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; along with six children: Colleen (Tom) Laha, Freedom; Susan (Bob) Harp, Appleton; Dr. Jim (Julie) Murphy, Pewaukee; Don (Jackie) Murphy, Freedom; Betty (Tom) Hillebrand, Appleton; Tammy (Brian) Nabbefeld, Freedom; he is also survived by 16 grandchildren: Marie (Tom) Krueger, Shawn (Jenny) Laha, Scott (Tina) Laha, Godchild Dr. Kurt (Ashley) Laha; Jill, Chris and Nicole Harp; Jim and Jay Murphy; John and Leah Murphy; Sydney and Ryan Hillebrand; and Travis, Troy and Trent Nabbefeld. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Aiden and Gavin Krueger, Liam Laha, Ted, Luis, Aidan and Gillian Laha, and another due in December. In addition, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Pat Murphy, brother-in-law, John (Gloria) Williamson, Jr., and many nieces and nephews.

Martin "Marty" J. Murphy, 75, of Freedom passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 15, 1937 the youngest of eight, son of the late Frank and Rosella (Weyenberg) Murphy. On February 9, 1956 he was united in marriage to Patricia Kamps.
Martin was a 1955 graduate of Freedom High School. He lived on the family farm his entire life. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom where he was a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Marty was one of the founders of Freedom Little League. He named his team the Cardinals and he continued to coach for the next 20 years. He was recognized for his contributions to Freedom Athletics by receiving the Freedom's Sports Award.
He was employed with Valley Ready Mix retiring as general manager in the concrete industry in 1995. He also operated the family farm and owned Fox Cities Communications. He was one of the original owners of Irish Waters Golf Course, which was built on the family farm.
Marty was an avid sports fan especially his St. Louis Cardinals. He loved time spent with his children and grandchildren especially the family vacations. He had great joy in attending his grandchildrens sporting events.

Charles Martin Van Camp, age 19 of Little Chute, died of injuries received in performance of his duty in United States Navy, according to word received from the War Department. The message stated that the burial would take place either at sea or in the locality where the death occurred. He attended St. John's grade school and high school. He enlisted in the Navy August 13, 1942, his parents received a letter from him two weeks ago on which they concluded he was starting for overseas duty.

The remains of Aviation Ordnance Man Third Class Charles M. Van Camp of World War II deceased member of the Navy from Little Chute are being returned by Military guard from overseas for final burial in Little Chute. Van Camp's body was interned in a military cemetery in the British West Indies. Mr. Martin Van Camp, of Little Chute, had requested his son's body be returned home.

Sager, Rachel F.Rachel F. Sager, 89, a lifelong resident of Allouez passed away on Tuesd ay July 1, 2003. Rachel was born on March 28, 1914 in Little Chute the dau ghter of the late Martin and Anna (Van Camp) Van Dyke. On August 8, 1939 s he married Arthur Sager and the couple enjoyed over 60 years together. A rt preceded her in death on February 28, 2000. Rachel's family was very im portant to her and she always cherished the moments spent together. She w as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be joyfully remember ed and sorrowfully missed. Rachel had a great appreciation of life and alw ays wore a smile on her face. The Blessed Virgin Mary held a special pla ce in her life and was always close to her heart.Rachel is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Dr. Thomas and Sharon Sa ger, Green Bay; one daughter and son-in-law Joan and William Tuley Ill., B radenton, Fla.; three grandchildren Eric (Cindy) Tuley, Land O'Lakes, Fla .; Keith Sager, Portland, Ore.; Scott Sager, Portland, Ore.; two sisters-i n-law Rosella Van Dyke and Leah Koch, a special cousin Joe (Beverly) Van D yke, she is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friend s.
