    Obituary:
John J. Hearden, 84, De Pere, died peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital on Friday, December 30, 2011, with family by his side. Born on June 13, 1927, in Green Bay, he was the son of the late Lester and Marie (Christman) Hearden. John served at the conclusion of World War II on the USS Pasadena. On June 16, 1958, he married Margaret T. Pearson at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Avoca, WI. John received his BS from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he majored in history and English and minored in sociology. He received his MS in Education with a concentration in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin (Madison). John worked for the Wisconsin Cooperative Service Education Agency (CESA) for 22 years as a school psychologist in the Waupun area.
A great lover of ideas and the arts (especially writing and acting), John's favorite pastimes included reading, lively "discussions," and taking in a good show whether it was on stage or the silver screen. He was also very fond of football, swimming, and tennis. John was particularly proud of his father, who was a halfback for the Green Bay Packers in 1924. He described vivid childhood memories of watching the team practice at Joannes Park and, on occasion, interacting with them on the field. Most of all, however, John was passionate about his faith and lived a life of impeccable intellectual and moral integrity.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret; two children, Ann Hearden, Certified Nutritionist at Streu's Pharmacy-Bay Natural, De Pere, Maura Hearden, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Theology at DeSales University, PA; Sisters, Carol Amenson, Boseman, MO, Jeanette Hearden, Green Bay; one brother, Richard "Dick" Hearden and wife, Patricia, Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Georgene Hearden, Eau Claire.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Hearden; one sister, Sally Katzbahn; and one brother-in-law, Colonel Raymond Amenson.
The funeral Mass will take place at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 710 N. Baird Street, Friday, January 6, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Anthony Cirignani, OFM and the Rev. Kenneth Yossa officiating. Visitation in the church will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral. A rosary will be held in the Marian Chapel (lower church) at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. MALCORE (East) Funeral Home is assisting the family, 432-5579.
