    New London - Shirlee Mae Beyer, age 87, New London, died peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at ThedaCare Appleton following a brief illness. Shirlee was born on August 22, 1930, daughter of the late Frank and Ella (Zielke) Cumber. On November 13, 1951, she married Alfred Beyer. Shirlee lived in New London most of her life. She spent her working life as a caregiver. She enjoyed doing word puzzles, crafts, bingo, but most important to her, was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Shirlee is survived by her children: LaRaine (Jim) Christian, Larry (Roxanne) Beyer, Dorothy (Don) Clegg, Evelyn (Tom) Ruppel, Kenny Beyer, Kathy (Bob) Brown, Paul (Lori) Beyer; grandchildren: Chris, Jaime, Travis, Scott, Bob, Brett, Stacey, Kyle, Lindsey, Josh and step-grandchildren: Michael and Jake; 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter due in October and, special friend, Russ Otto.
    Shirlee was preceded in death by her parents, many brothers & sister and a granddaughter, Traci (Beyer) Langenhuizen.
    The funeral service for Shirlee will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Rev. William Heiges will be officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in New London.
    The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at New London and Appleton ThedaCare hospitals for their compassionate care.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

    Bock-Van Handel, Geraldine "Gerry"
    Gerry, age 88, of Kaukauna, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, at St. Paul Elder Services. She was born February 12, 1921, in Appleton, daughter of the late Charles and Louise (Waulet) Cumber. She married Edwin Bock July 19, 1941, sharing 54 years together before his death May 21, 1996. She married Henry (Hank) Van Handel February 2, 2002, who preceded her in death November 4, 2004.
    Gerry was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a past member of the Christian Mothers, St. E's Auxiliary, VFW Post #2778 Ladies Auxiliary, Cooties Pup Tent #29 and American Legion Post #38 Ladies Auxiliary.
    Gerry is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law: Candace Williams, Town of Menasha; Joy and David Bradway, Oshkosh; Nancy and Michael Kerkhoff, Kaukauna; 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Terry and Vanessa Bock, Waupaca; Gary and Colleen Bock, Little Chute and a daughter-in-law: Carrie Bock, Appleton; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Bock, two brothers: Marlyn Cumber and Kenneth Cumber; a sister, Betty Kowalke and a son-in-law, Henry Williams.
    Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., with Rev. Robert Karuhn officiating. Burial will take place Wednesday at Highland Memorial Park. The visitation will be held Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the time of service in the Sacred Heart Room at the church. A memorial fund has been established.
    The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at St. Paul Elder Services for the loving care Gerry received during her stay.

    Kenneth Cumber, age 82, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, July 8, 2007, having just celebrated his birthday on Friday. Ken was born to Charles and Louise Waulet Cumber on July 6, 1925, in Appleton. He graduated from Appleton High School, but was drafted into the Navy before he could pick up his diploma. He served on the USS Wichita and later became a member of the VFW. Ken had worked for Zwickers Knitting Mill and retired after 35 years of service. He then went to work at Copps Grocery Store at the age of 70 and worked there for 10 years with his grandson Jason.
    Ken is survived by his daughters: Cheryl Cumber, Menasha; Charlene (James) Hopkins, Naperville, IL; two grandchildren: Jason (Staci) Wallace, Chilton, who are also expecting Ken's first great-grandchild in January, and Caitlyn Hopkins, Naperville, IL; his sister Geraldine Van Handel, Kaukauna. Ken is further survived by the love of his life and special friend Eleanor Jaeger and her family: daughter Jacquelyn (Albert) Ploor, granddaughters; Tammie (Jason) Schumacher, and their daughters, Jenna and Alyssa, and Wendy (Jonathan) Lear and their daughter Emily.
    Ken was preceded in death by an infant son, David Lee, his parents, his brother Marlin Cumber and his sister Betty Kowalke.
    Funeral services for Kenneth will be held 11 a.m., July 30, 2007, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton, with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service also at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Appleton.
