Obituary:
Gerald "Jerry" Leis, age 83, of Sparta, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta. He was born on August 30, 1925, to Casper "Shep" and Eleanor (Suhr) Leis in Cashton.
He was united in Holy Matrimony on November 12, 1949 to Marie Barlow at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sparta. Throughout his life, Jerry's career ambitions lead him down various pathways, but the most prominent was his position as Owner of the family business, Leis Construction.
Jerry is survived by his son, Vernon Leis of Sparta, WI; his daughter, Karen Foellmi of Green Bay, WI; his brother, Reynold (Angie) Leis of Viroqua, WI; five grandchildren, Crystal (David) Gotthardt of Wichita, KS, Lynette Foellmi of Sparta, WI, Sara (Marty) Schudar of Sparta, WI, Jeri Leis of Oshkosh, WI, Benjamin Foellmi of Green Bay, WI; four great grandchildren, Caryssa Gotthardt of Wichita, KS, Kaylee Foellmi of Sparta, WI, Hannah and Alexander Schudar of Sparta, WI; along with many other relatives and dear friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Marie and his parents, Casper and Eleanor Leis; siblings, Verneta (Cookie) Vian, Kenny and Harvey Leis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sparta, Wisconsin. Father James Leary O.F.M.Cap. will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Sparta. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home in Sparta. Family and friends are also invited for visitation Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Online condolences are available at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com .
