    Obituary:
William "Bill" J. Fuerst, 83 year, of Sturgeon Bay, was called home on Friday (October 12, 2012) at home.
He was born September 20, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois, the only child of William Sr. and Clara (Blish) Fuerst. At the age of eight, his family moved to Sturgeon Bay. Bill graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1948. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War in 1951 to 1954. On November 5, 1955 he married Dorothy J. Ehlers at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2005.
As a young man Bill had worked for Plecks Dairy and his love of flying started then as he flew deliveries to Washington Island. Recently he was able to fly a friends airplane in Door County at age 82. Bill also worked for many years at Baudhuin's Yacht Harbor, and Monago Lumber. He owned and operated Fuerst Standard Service, a gas and service station on Michigan and Third in Sturgeon Bay. In retirement he loved working for the Door County Coop hardware department. Bill was still working four days a week at the Coop.
He was a member of the American Legion, and the Sturgeon Bay Park and Rec. Board. Bill was an avid baseball fan, loved fishing, hunting with his son, Tim and grandson, Joey. He was a proud and supportive grandfather, attending and enjoying all of his grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include his three children, Carrie (Fred) Greenwood of Green Bay, Kellie (Chris) Sabo of Sturgeon Bay, Tim (friend, Mary Kay Shumway) of Sister Bay; three grandchildren, Carrie (Thadeus) Mazik of Hartford, WI, Jared (special friend, Stephanie Tess), and Joey Fuerst attending college.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William Sr. and Clara Fuerst, and his dear wife, Dorothy J. Fuerst.
Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Tuesday (October 16, 2012) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be a devotion at 5:30 p.m. with Rev. Nathan Lewis officiating, followed by military honors. Burial will be held on Wednesday morning at Bayside Cemetery.
"Our father truly loved his family; he had a big heart and was an outgoing, helpful person. For those who knew him he would let you know about his grandchildren. They were always on his mind. His pride was evident and his love for them, heartfelt. We will really miss him."

William married Ehlers, Dorothy 5 Nov 1955. Dorothy was born 26 Apr 1936; died 19 Dec 2005. [Group Sheet]
