Obituary:
Donald J. Kallas, age 63, of Omro, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born November 2, 1942 to Walter and Myrtle (Hess) Kallas. Don graduated from Omro High School in 1961 and then served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Ruth Ann Lee on July 18, 1970 at St. Mary Parish in Omro. Don worked for Kramp Construction of Milwaukee and then for Vinton Construction of Manitowoc before becoming disabled in 1985. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, farming, his horses especially "Topper", and watching the Packers and NASCAR.
Don was a lifelong member of St. Mary Parish in Omro, the Waukau Flying Mane, and Local 1086.
Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Ann Kallas, of Omro; two daughters: Susanne (Ted) Schubert, of New London; Amy (Brian) Allison, of Omro; five grandchildren: Andrew Kallas, Bobbi Allison, Thomas James Schubert, Paige Schubert, Kalei Allison; one brother, Wayne (Judy) Kallas, of Omro; four sisters: Marilyn (Bob) Gruetzmacher, of Omro; Jeanne (Sherwyn) Danke, Shirley (Dick) Ceelen, Chris Hanke, all of Oshkosh; brothers-in-law: Michael (Nancy) Lee, of Oshkosh; Thomas (Christine) Lee, of Omro; special friends, Chet and Dorothy Coda; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Ella Mae (Crowley) Lee; and a brother-in-law, Paul Hanke.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Parish, 233 E. Scott St., Omro, with Rev. Joseph Mattern officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Rushford Cemetery in the Town of Rushford. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne and on Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
A memorial fund has been established in Don's name for cancer research.
Don's family would like to thank the staff of Marshfield Clinic, Dr. Stram, Dr. Beckett, and the nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center for the special care given to him.
