    Obituary:
Karen Rose Friis, 71, Sherwood, died peacefully at her home with her family at her side after a short battle with cancer. Karen was born in New London, on Nov. 12, 1939, to the late Lawrence and Evelyn (Ritchie) Neely. She spent her childhood years being raised in Bear Creek.
Karen married John Friis, her best friend and lover of 52 years, on Oct. 31, 1959. They spent 1 years in Germany while in the Army. They then made their home and raised their family in Appleton for 23 years, before moving to Sherwood. Karen worked for 25 years at St. Elizabeth Hospital and 20 years at Valley Family Practice.
Karen and John's visit to the Holy Land in 2007 was the highlight of their travels - dreams do come true. Her gift, given by God, was herself. She was always the first to sit with anyone who was sick or in the hospital, bring them dinner or just be their friend. She always showed people real love. Her biggest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is now in the arms of her beloved and precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She will be missed by her loving husband, John "Mike", Sherwood; two daughters, Lisa M. (Mike) Nass, Appleton; and Julie A. (Dan) Braun, Fremont; son, Brad J. (Diana) Friis, Appleton; six grandchildren, Christian (Sarah) Nass, Temple, Texas; Aaron Nass, Appleton; Andrew (Ashlee) Nass, Appleton; Tyler Friis, Appleton; Nicole Friis, Appleton; and Brodie Braun, Fremont; two great-grandchildren, Angelia Nass and Elijah Timothy Nass; a sister, Eileen (Jim) Gossens, Clintonville; and a brother, Jerry (Dona) Neely, Clintonville. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Karen will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Christ The Rock Church, W6254 Hwy. 10-114, Menasha, with the Rev. Bill Lenz officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
The family would like to extend a large thank you to their now friends from St. Paul's Hospice Program. Their care and compassion were wonderful!
