Obituary:
Marie Burkhardt, 91, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Heartwood Homes in Appleton. Marie was born in the Town of Lima (Gibbsville) on Oct. 28, 1918, to the late John and Johanna (Navis) Simmelink. On Oct. 28, 1950, she was united in marriage to Elmer Burkhardt. The couple enjoyed 52 years together until his death in 2003.
Marie worked for Vollrath Co., a manufacturer of pots and pans for nine years. She then worked for Lakeland College for 13 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member at Immanuel United Church of Christ, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid. Marie was a great cook whose life revolved around her loving family.
She is survived by her three sons, Dennis (fiance Debra Lamb) Burkhardt, Ely, IA; Jim (Linda) Burkhardt, Appleton; and Gary (friend Brian Goldshlack) Burkhardt, Appleton; two granddaughters, Erin (Matt) Krueger and Michelle (fiance Matt) Burkhardt; one great-grandchild Riley Krueger.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Harry, Dewey, John, Marvin, and George; and four sisters, Clara, Esther, Florence, and Eunice.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, W3694 CTH FF, Plymouth, with the Rev. Michele Rogers-Brigham officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at the church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit Immanuel United Church of Christ.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tammy at Asera Care and the staff at Heartwood Homes for the loving care shown to Marie.
