    Armella Sambs Bernegger, the co-founder of what became Hillshire Farm Meat Products, was born Armella Sambs in
    Hortonville, Outagamie, WI; her early education was there.
    In 1927, Armella courted and married Freiderich "Fritz" Bernegger, bearing two children -- Gary and Brenda. Bernegger succumed to natural causes on May 7, 1984, survived by husband Freiderich, a sister, Myrtle Sambs (1906-2002), son Gary and Daughter Brenda, Son Gary's Joan and their children: Mark, Paul, Peter and Cathy, and daughter Brenda's husband David Wenberg and their children; Gretchen, John, Craig and Neil, as well as a host of other family friends and relatives.
    Upon a move to New London, Wisconsin in 1928, the Bernegger's early business was founded Eventually, three stores emerged and the business was known as the Quality Meat Markets, eventually reorganizing as a corporation in 1954 and initially known as Quality Packing House, Inc. Subsequently, the company was renamed as Hillshire Meat Products, and then Hillshire Farms, Inc (in 1974), after a merger with the Sara Lee Corporation (then known as Consolidated Foods) in 1971. Ms. Bernegger was buried and is interred at the Most Precious Blood Cemetery in New London.

    Myrtle (Sambs) Bernegger, New LondonFormerly of Hortonville, age 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesd ay morning at the New London Family medical Center. She was born on Octob er 30, 1906, the second of seven children of Charles and Mary (Brill) Samb s. She graduated from Hortonville High School in a commercial course and p ut that to use as a long time bookkeeper for Freiburger's Dodge & Chrysl er dealership and Werner & Raschke Ford in New London. Myrtle also serv ed for many years as clerk for the Town of Hortonia and between her many j obs and responsibilities still found time to help with farm chores and gar dening at the home farm. On April 12, 1985 she married Fritz Bernegger. My rtle and Fritz spent happy days together both at a winter home in Arizo na as well as their home in Hortonville until Fritz's death in 1988. Myrt le is survived by a step-son, Gary (Joan) Bernegger, New London; a step-da ughter, Brenda (Dave) Wenberg, Waupaca; plus Gary & Brenda's children a nd grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother Joe (Helen) Samb s, Hortonville; and brother-in-law, Wesley Martin, Hortonville. Also ma ny nieces and nephews. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband Frit z, three sisters, Armella, Margaret and Helen. Two brothers Carl, and Fran cis. Myrtle lived her last years at the Temple Apartments in New London wh ere she made many friends and spent happy hours playing cards and visitin g. She was active in the AARP organization and served as the group's treas urer until the time of her illness. The family wishes to acknowledge the t ender and compassionate care provided to Myrtle in her last days by the nu rses and staff at the New London Hospital. She could not have been in bett er hands. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at S t. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville with Fr. David J. Funk, O FM Cap. officiating. Internment will be in the Most Precious Blood Cemete ry in New London. Friends may call at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in N ew London on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. when the procession wi ll leave for the church. A memorial fund has been established .

    Sambs, Joseph S.Joseph S. Sambs, Hortonville, age 91, entered eternal life on January 1 3, 2005 at his home. Joseph was born on August 28, 1913 in the Town of Hor tonia son of the late Charles and Mary (Brill) Sambs. He lived on the fami ly farm in Hortonia his entire life. He married Helen Cooney on June 12, 1 940. Together they raised a family of 9 children. Joe farmed with his brot her Carl for many years where they raised registered Landrace hogs and Hol steins. He farmed along side his son Kevin the last 20 years, doing chore s, including milking daily until this spring. He loved to hunt and fish a nd especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada. He truly enjoyed eve ry aspect of the outdoors and looked forward to the different hunting seas ons and the camaraderie of the hunt.Joseph is survived by his wife Helen; nine children: Judy (Chuck) Riese, O shkosh; Charles (Judy) Sambs, Hudson; Daniel (Carol) Sambs, Fremont; Sr Jo ann Sambs, Fond du Lac; Greg (Arlette) Sambs, Fort Atkinson; Janice (Davi d) Flenz, Appleton; Mary (Mike) Riha, Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Barb Reari ck (Monjeet Singh), Appleton; Kevin (Jane) Sambs, Hortonville; seventeen g randchildren: Chuck and Paul Riese, Roxanne Whismann, Brian, Jeff, Jay, Jo n, Joey, Jesse, Tim, Casey, Katie and Kelsey Sambs; Julie Flenz, Erin a nd Christopher Riha and Ben Rearick; seven great grandchildren: Jon, Scot t, Morgan, Macey, Kaylee, David and Danielle and one great great grandchi ld Destiny.
