On February 1, 1879 Michael Ryan's brother, Daniel Ryan of Outagam ie County, Wisconsin was appointed guardian the the three children. Michael Ryan's sister was a Bridgit (Ryan) McNamara. She was marri ed to a Patrick McNamara of Knights Ferry, California. His brother w as a Timothy Ryan who in 1883 moved to Seattle, Washington. Michael,, Bri dgit, Timothy and Daniel were born in Gouig, Castleconnell, County Limeric k, Ireland. There parents were Malachi and Judith Ryan.

There is a Michael Ryan Listed in Oakdale census 1900 on pages 15A & 15 B, but the writing is blurred and not very legible. He was married 26 yea rs immigrated in 1870? wife's name not legible children first one not legi ble then second oage is clearer, child Lizzie born June 1883 and James bo rn Apr 1885.

Michael registered to vote in Tuolumne County on July 18th, 1866 a nd listed as 34 years of age. He also became a naturalized citizen on Ju ly 7, 1864, in the 5th Judical Court. This would be Sonora. News Mention:
From the Tuolumne Independent Newspaper of Augu st 24, 1878 About 10am yesterday a deplorable accident occured at the New Alba ny Mine, (near Sonora, Califonnia) by which Michael Ryan, the well-known s uperintendent of the mine lost his life. Joseph West, one of the men at work in the mine, states that Micha el Ryan was at work in the mine, presumably doing something below the seco nd level, when the accident occured. Charles Stokes who was working on t he 4th level gave the alarm, and Joseph West and another found the body la ying across one of the timbers. Life was not then extinct, but before t he body could be raised to the surface of the shaft, the deceased died. H ow it occured exactly is not known. Whether he slipped or was struck wi th a bucket or not is a mystery. The deceased was much respected by all who worked under him, and inde ed by all that knew him as an honest, hard working man. He leaves a siste r, Bridgit McNamara of Knights Ferry, Stanislaus County and a brother Timo thy Ryan. Mr. Ryan has had one or two falls down this shaft before, on ce breaking his arm, but each time catching and saving himself. He was ve ry venturesome and has been repeatedly warned by the miners to take car e, especially as the timbers are slimy and very slippery. He always sa id that he was not afraid. Michael Ryan leaves behind three children. They were Malachy Ry an 15 years of age, Patrick Ryan 13 years of age, and Johannah Ryan 11 yea rs of age. Michael Ryan is buried at Mt. View Cemetery aka St. Patrick's Cathol ic Cemetery, Lyons-Bald Mountain Road
