    Kenneth Bernard Hoffman, age 87, of Appleton, died peacefully at home on Monday March 8, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by members of his loving family. Ken was born September 29, 1922, in Mackville to Philip and Agnes (Griesbach) Hoffman. He attended St. Edward Catholic School through eighth grade and then attended high school in Appleton. A lifelong resident of Outagamie County, Ken worked as a dairy farmer, as a papermaker for over 30 years before retiring from Midtec Paper Corporation in 1984, and then as a caretaker at Riverside Cemetery before finally retiring in 2009. Kenneth Hoffman proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On November 26, 1953, he married Rita Schumacher at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rita; his three sons Paul (Merry) Hoffman and their four children of Fort Worth, Texas, David (Carla) Hoffman and their two sons of Appleton, and Mark Hoffman and his two sons and stepson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and in-laws Dorothy Hoffman, Dorothy Van Gheem-Hoffman, Marion Schumacher, Tess Schumacher, Harold (Germaine) Schumacher, Millie (Schumacher) Huss, Maurice (Florence) Schumacher, Eugene (Eleanor) Schumacher, Marvin (Leona) Schumacher, John (Katherine) Schumacher, and James (Donna) Schumacher; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers John, Urban, Raymond, and Elmer; five sisters Hedwig, Marcella, Rosemary, Dorothy (Weber), and Rita; one step-grandson; and in-laws Charles Weber, Alice Hoffman, Florence Hoffman, Peter and Betty Schumacher, Raymond Schumacher, Clarence Schumacher, Joseph and Mary Schumacher, and Robert Huss; and two nephews, John Schumacher and Steve Schumacher, a grand-nephew and a grand-niece. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin A! venue, Appleton with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be at Valley Funeral Home on Thursday, March 11, 2010, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the Mass. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers who gave Ken compassionate and loving care during his illness. Ken 's faith was strong and his life 's mission a simple one: Matthew 22: 36-40
