    Rites Wednesday for Matt J. Spranger, 82
    Mathias (Matt) Spranger, 82, of the Town of Elderon, died Monday , at his home at 6:30 a.m. He had been in failing health for several years.
    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Wittenberg, with Fr. Jerome Watry officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery south of Wittenberg.
    Friends may call at the Schmidt Funeral Home in this village after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

    Funeral services for Mathias J. Spranger, 82, Town of Elderon, who died Monday, Nov. 25, were held at Church of the Holy Family in Wittenberg at 11: a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jerome Watry officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery. The casket bearers were Gilbert Ploeger, Leslie Verkuilen, Lester Balthazor, Harry VanderKooy, Adolph Kitzman and John Spranger. The local Schmidt Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Spranger was born in Holland Town, Brown County, Nov. 3, 1881, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Spranger. His wife, the former Miss Antonetta Van DeHey, whom he married in the Town of Elderon Nov. 17, 1903, died in July 1960. They had farmed in the Town of Elderon during their marriage.
    Mr. Spranger had served as town treasurer and clerk in the Town of Elderon.
    Surviving are five sons, Raymond Spranger and Lester Spranger, Eland route 1, Orville Spranger, Wittenberg, Lyman Spranger, Elderon, and Herbert Spranger, Hatley; three daughters, Mrs. Albert Van Wetering, Chicago, Mrs. John Lukasko, Eland route 1, and Mrs. Herman Grissman, Medford; a brother, Gerhardt Spranger, Wittenberg; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Lyons of New Jersey, and Mrs. Margaret Gracyalny, Menasha; 27 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

    Lester John Spranger, age 67, Eland, died October 18, 1975 at Langlade Memorial Hospital, Antigo.
    He was born January 22, 1908 in the town of Elderon, the son of the late Mathias and Antonetta (VanDeHey) Spranger. On October 23, 1937 he married Verna Podjaski in Wittenberg. She survives.
    In addition to his wife, Lester is survived by 4 brothers, Raymond, Eland, Orville, Wittenberg, Lyman, Wittenberg and Herbert, Hatley; 3 sisters, Lillian VanWettering, Chicago, Verna Lukasko, Eland and Adala Grissman, Eland. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Norman.
    Funeral services were held October 20, 1975 at St. William Catholic Church, Eland. The Rev. Claude Zabinski officiated. Interment was in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Wittenberg.

    In addition to his wife, survivors include 3 sons, Gary Spranger, Wonderlake, IL, James Spranger, Wooddale, IL and Dennis Spranger, Greenfield, WI; 2 daughters, Shirley (Norman) Gavinski, Muskego and Rosemary (James) McGrath, Lake Zurich, IL; 3 brothers, Raymond, Eland, Lyman, Wittenberg and Herbert, Hatley; and 3 sisters, Lillian Van Wettering, Chicago, Verna Lukasko, Eland and Adala (Herman) Grissman, Eland; and 14 grandchildren. Orville was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lester.
    Funeral services were held May 14, 1979 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. Claude Zabinski officiated. Interment was in St. Philomena Cemetery, Birnamwood.

    She was born February 15, 1913 in the township of Elderon, the daughter of the late Mathias and Antonetta (VanDeHey) Spranger. On August 7, 1935, Verna was united in marriage to John Lukasko, Jr. in Birnamwood. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1974.
    Survivors include four children, James (JoAnn) Lukasko, Edgar, Suzanne (Elton) Bauch, Birnamwood, Geri Starr, Eland and Elaine (Doug) Vertein, Milwaukee; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lyman Spranger, Wittenberg; three sisters-in-law, Martha Spranger, Hatley, Verna Spranger and Theresa Spranger, both of Wittenberg; and many nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her husband and parents, Verna was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet, two sisters, Adala Grissmann and Lillian VanWettering and five brothers, Norman, Lester, Raymond, Orville and Herbert Spranger.
    Funeral services were held June 26, 2000 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. Michael Carroll officiated. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

    Funeral services were held June 9, 1993 at St. Florian Catholic Church, Hatley. The Rev. Thomas Abraham officiated. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
