    Appel, Earl E.Earl E. Appel, 89, 1320 Garfield St., Wisconsin Rapids, died Saturday afte rnoon, July 1, 2006, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home. Earl was born on Ja n. 22, 1917, in Wisconsin Rapids to William and Edna (Ott) Appel. He marri ed Lois Stahl in Wisconsin Rapids. He joined the Army Air Corps in Ju ly of 1942, serving 11 months in the European Theater with 95th Divisi on of 377 Infantry. Earl worked for Consolidated Papers Inc. for 42 year s, retiring in 1982 as a millwright. He was a member of Immanuel Luther an Church. He was the post commander of American Legion Post No. 9 three t imes and was also awarded the Silver Star while serving on active duty f or gallantry and courage in combat. The Silver Star is one of three top mi litary honors.Earl is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons, William (Kathleen) Appel, Gr een Bay; Daniel (Mary) Appel, Key West, Fla.; one daughter, Marilyn (Jerr y) Knuth, Plover, Wis.; three grandchildren, Andrew (Gina) Knuth, Chad Knu th and Collin Knuth; several nieces and nephews; and L.W. and Helen Murtfe ldt, Wisconsin Rapids.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Eldr ed and Edna Appel.Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 5, fr om 10 a.m. until service time for visitation. A memorial funeral service w ill be held on Wednesday, July 5, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Churc h, Wisconsin Rapids. Lay minister William Loock will be officiating. Inter ment at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be provid ed by American Legion Post No. 9.He devoted over 70 years of his life to his family and country.
