    Obituary:
Robert A. Maas, Sr., age 87, passed peacefully on May 22, 2017. Bob was lovingly cared for by his wife of 65 years, Marion, and his children. He was a leukemia survivor (CLL), undergoing successful treatments to keep the disease under control since 2012. As a result he was able to live comfortably at home until very recently.
Bob was born in Kimberly, Wisconsin on January 7, 1930, the son of William (Bill) and Emma Maas. At age 16, Bob began work at the paper mill in Kimberly. He met his future wife, Marion Stoeger, at the Cinderella Ballroom in Appleton. They were married on February 21, 1952. In his 40's he earned his GED and Associates Degree, achieving the level of machinist.
Bob served in the military including the National Guard and Army in Austria and Germany. He was commander of local VFW and American Legion posts. He was also a volunteer fireman.
Bob was a lifelong learner; accomplished in many areas and knowledgeable on almost any subject. He could fix just about anything and if he couldn't, he would make a new one. He restored cars including his beloved 1930 Model A. His kids have fond memories of rides in the rumble seat.
Bob was also a self-taught artist, beginning in retirement. He created many amazing paintings of his children, grandchildren, family pets, friends and outdoor scenes. He also had a crazy sense of humor and had a gift for making his family laugh via funny sayings and clever jokes.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Marion, their seven children: Debbie Hudson, Appleton; Daniel (Hilde) Maas, Halden, Norway; Fred (Linda) Maas, Appleton; Nancy (Tammy Thorlakson) Maas, Hubertus, WI; Lisa Maas, Appleton; Robert Jr. (Michelle) Maas, Appleton and Matthew (Lisa) Maas, Menasha. He is also survived by his grandchildren Zach Maas, Josh Maas, Stephanie Maas, Jeremy Maas, Marie (Martin) Kubin, David Maas, Anniken (Barry) Prosser and Kelly (Dave) Hamers, and several great-grandchildren.
Bob is also survived by his siblings: Jerry (Maryanne) Maas, Tommy Maas, Mary Abitz, Millie Otto, Lyle Maas, Bill (Judie) Maas, and Rosie Thompson. Brothers-in-law Fred "Hansy" Stoeger and Dick Schmidt, and sisters-in-law Lynn Maas, Joan "Dolly" (Dick) Schmidt and Mya Johnson.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Emma Maas, his wife's parents: Fred and Vera (Johnson) Stoeger; sisters Darlene and Baby sister; brothers Don and Ray Maas; brothers-in-law Ray Abitz, Gary Otto, Doug Thompson, Jerome Stoeger, Herbert Stoeger, Jimmy Stoeger and Fran Klein; sisters-in-law Alice Reed, Mary Lou Maas, Jeanne Maas, Mildred "Mousie" Klein, Ruth Stoeger, and Doris Stoeger.
The funeral will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday May 25, 2017 at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 705 E. Greenfield Dr., Little Chute, WI, 54140 with Pastor Ronald Szep officiating.
