Born September 28, 1951, the daughter of Carl and Alice (Davis) Hartzheim, she was born into eternal life on March 25, 2014. God, music and children were the gifts of her life. Active in many forms of parish community life as pastoral minister, hospital and home visitor, prayer leader, RCIA coordinator, liturgist, lay minister, and member of the Secular Franciscan Third Order, Mary Frances loved God and tried to live her life in service of Him and her brothers and sisters in Christ. Music was always a part of her daily life. In music she found comfort, blessings and joy which she shared with many as church choir member, soloist for funerals and weddings, guitarist for folk groups, accompanist for children's liturgies and school programs, and liturgical song leader. Mary Frances also shared her love for music with different community musical groups like; Up With People, Appleton REC Department, Christmas Stars, Lawrence Community Christmas Chorus, and with the Chaminade Women's Chorus of which she was a life member and served the chorus in many capacities as its president, vice-president, secretary, fund raiser, stage committee member, and anything else they needed. She just loved to sing! Teaching was not just a job for Mary Frances, it was her passion. She shared her love for life and learning with students in SS peter and Paul School, Hortonville, St. Therese School, Appleton, St. Edwards School, Mackville, St. Francis School, Hollandtown and Holy Angels, Darboy. It was not just the lessons from a book that she taught, but she tried to prepare each child for success in their own unique corner of the world. She also worked with adults learning English and religion as well as being a math and reading teacher with the Sylvan Learning Center.
Mary Frances is survived and remembered by; Shirl Coonen, SFO, her friend, life's' companion and soul mate, her brother; Carl L. (Jeannette) Hartzheim, Appleton, special niece; Sheri (Andy) and great nieces Adi and Luci Hopfensburger, Stevens Point; Heather (Sean) Stanley, whom she raised as a daughter, Appleton, four Godchildren; Tanisha and Sabrina Coonen, Jasmine and Michael Stanley, Appleton, as well as other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, two sisters; Carol and Anne Hartzheim, a brother, William Davis, a sister-in-law, Constance Davis and several aunts and uncles.
The entire Funeral and Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at St. Pius X Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, with the Rev. Thomas Farrell officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00AM until the time of the Liturgy. Internment will follow the services at Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
Mary Frances wanted to express her profound gratitude towards all the staff at St. Paul's Elder Services, the Hospice team and several residents she chose to call friends, for their loving care and healing presence during the past year. She felt blessed to call St. Paul's her Home.
God so loved the world, that He gave us His only beloved Son, that who so ever believes will not die, but have eternal life. Amen.
