    Harry L. Hurst, Kaukauna, age 90, died on Friday January 2, 2015 at Parkside Care Center. He was born September 30, 1924 in Little Chute, son of the late Bernard and Mary (Jansen) Hurst. The 3rd born in a family of seven, Harry graduated from St. John High School in Little Chute in 1942 and St. Norbert's Collage in 1952 where he went under the G.I. Bill. On October 16, 1954 Harry married Dolores Elsner. The couple lived in Kaukauna their entire married lives. Harry served in the U.S. Army in WWII and fought in Belgium and Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge. On his return home he played for the Little Chute Semi-pro football team, the Flying Dutchmen. Harry worked for many different companies. He volunteered at 1000 Island Environmental Center and built many bird houses, he also volunteered at the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
    Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dolores; 2 sisters: Audrey (Gerald) Driessen, Little Chute and Jeanette (Tom) Vandehey, Kimberly; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hurst, Appleton; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is further survived by his wife's family: Carmen Elsner, Little Chute, Denise Koepke, Abilene, TX, and Norma Elsner, Shawano.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law: Willis and Nanna Elsner, brothers, Cletus (Gertrude), Kenneth ("Tiny"), Phillip, Floyd (Noreen and Cordell), a nephew, Steve Vandehey; in-laws: Lou Ellen Elsner and Willis Elsner Jr.
    Mass of Christian Burial for Harry will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. Aloysius Church, 2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends will be received at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Kaukauna Area Catholic School System, 1000 Island Environmental Center or The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.     Philip, age 83, of Appleton, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009. He was born September 9, 1926, in Little Chute, son of the late Bernard and Mary (Jansen) Hurst. After graduating from St. John's High School in 1945, he served with the Army in the Pacific Theater following WW II. He later attended Milwaukee Business College. Phil worked for 47 years at Hoffer Glass Co. He was member of Appleton American Legion Post 38 and a very active member of St.Thomas More Catholic Parish.
    On May 7, 1949, Phil married Elizabeth (Elsie) Liethen at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. They celebrated 60 years of marriage at their daughter's home in the summer of 2009. An engraved bench celebrating their family and years of marriage sits at Welcker's Point in Peninsula State Park, (the family's second home).
    Phil enjoyed traveling to Canada and fishing each summer with family and/or friends. He introduced each of his grandchildren to the joys of fishing and was able to bring almost every grandchild to Canada. Phil started a family tradition of camping in the 1960's, and four generations of Hursts continue to love camping and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed gardening and his own raspberry patch, spending hours baking pies for his grandchildren and his friends. Five days each week he met friends at the Wisconsin Diner for coffee.
    Above all, Phil loved his family. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, often traveling all over to attend gymnastics, swimming and wrestling meets, football and basketball games and dance recitals. He never missed a grandchild's baptism, including that of his twin great-grandsons in 2008. He was an outstanding grandpa who delighted in creating scavenger hunts, the annual Christmas "Grandpa Game" and backyard activities for his grandchildren.
    Phil believed strongly in volunteering his time. From organizing the Xavier Food Fair in the l970's to volunteering at the food pantry this year, he always gave back to the Appleton community.
    Philip was the loving husband of Elizabeth (Liethen); father of Suzette (Burton) Watring, Pleasant Prairie, WI; Philip J. Hurst, Appleton; Georgette Hensley, Phoenix AZ; Peter (Lisa) Hurst, Ixonia, WI; Claudette (Kim) Lozano, Caledonia, MI; Paul (Twila) Hurst, DePere, WI; four grand daughters, nine grandsons, two great-grandsons, a brother: Harry (Delores) Hurst, Kaukauna; two sisters: Audrey (Gerald) Driessen, Little Chute and Jeanette (Thomas) VanDeHey, Kimberly and many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by three brothers: Cletus, Kenneth and Floyd.
    Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2009, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
    The family is grateful for the compassionate staff in the intensive care unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

    Appleton - Philip J. Hurst, age 65, passed away in his home on June 9, 2018, after a short Illness. Beloved son of Elizabeth (Liethen) Hurst and the late Philip A. Hurst; loving father of Philip L. Hurst; cherished brother of Suzette Watring, Georgette Hensley, Peter (Lisa) Hurst, Claudette (Kim) Lozano, and Paul (Melissa) Hurst; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Philip A. Hurst. Phil attended Xavier High School and UW-Eau Claire, studying fine art. He worked as a draftsman and estimator at Hoffer Glass Systems for many years before selflessly becoming his mother's in-home caregiver. In his free time, he enjoyed horticulture, road trips, working in his garage, reading from his expansive library, volunteering at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, playing cribbage, military history (especially WWII), and sharing his years of wisdom. Steve was bo rn in Appleton on June 4, 1964, the son of Tom and Jean (Hurst) Vandeh ey of Kimberly. He was a 1982 graduate of the Kimberly High School, and th en attended UW-Stevens Point and received an Associate’s Degree in busine ss from UW-Fox Valley in 1984. For several years, Steve worked as a salesm an at many local automobile dealerships, include Tom Meiers Motors in Appl eton. On May 7, 1988, he married the former Lisa Minten in Kimberly, and t heir marriage was blessed with two children, Eric and Kayla. Steve was cur rently the general contractor for Showcase Homes, a division of First Capi tal Development. He was an avid softball and basketball player, and especi ally enjoyed hunting and fishing. More than anything, though, he dedicat ed himself to loving and caring for Lisa and the kids. He loved them all v ery much.Steve is survived by his parents: Tom and Jean Vandehey of Kimberly; his w ife: Lisa Vandehey and their children Eric and Kayla; three sisters: Jul ie (Bob) Reinke, Toni (John) Sikora, and Anne (Randy) Asman, all of Darbo y; two brothers: Jeffrey B. He is also survived by Lisa’s mother: Janice Mint en of Darboy; her sisters: Ellen (Jeff) Liethen, Debbie Minten and her fia nce T.J. Ott, and Kelly (Jim) Sanderfoot; and by her brother: Todd (Sara h) Minten. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew s, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by an infa nt sister Mary and by Lisa’s father Eugene Minten.The funeral liturgy will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 3, 2003 at HO LY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Denn is Bergsbaken officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Frien ds may call directly at the church on Monday from 4:00 PM until the ho ur of the service.Steve was a devoted father, husband, brother, and son. he touched our liv es every day. He built our homes and enriched our lives. Steve was the cen ter of attention at family gatherings and quite a lively dancer at wedding s. He spoke his mind and always made us laugh. He enjoyed sporting event s, and was a dependable, hard-working man whom his friends and co-worke rs leaned on for support.
