    Patricia Wood Baer, 88, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, after a short illness.
    Patricia was born in Green Bay, to parents Lester G. and Esther Laura Wood.
    She was a graduate of East High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching certificate from Denison College in 1944.
    Patricia taught school in Dayton, Ohio, for several years where she met Frederick E. Baer, her husband of 59 years.
    Upon completion of Fred's post-war college education, the couple moved to Green Bay in late 1948.
    In addition to raising a family of three sons, Patricia was a committed and active community volunteer and philanthropist. Although she served and supported many organizations, she was especially dedicated to First United Methodist Church, the YWCA and Heritage Hill where she took a lead role in the restoration of the Cotton House.
    Patricia was a founding board member of the Bellin College of Nursing and was a director emeritus. Patricia was also proud to be a long time member of Chapter N of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Patricia also served as a member of the board of directors of Paper Converting Machine Company for many years.
    Patricia received many recognitions and awards for her service and stewardship of the community's needs including: the William Booth Award from The Salvation Army, the William Heraly MacDonald Award from the United Way, the President's Medal from St. Norbert College, the Chancellor's Award from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the Outstanding Philanthropist Award from the National Society of Fund Raising Executives.
    Patricia is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick and Virginia Baer, De Pere; Richard and Sara Baer, Eau Claire, Wis.; and Charles and Stephanie Baer, Germantown, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Tony) Redling, Gustav Baer, Karl Baer, Simon Baer, Zachary Baer and Briella Baer; one great-grandson, Kyan Redling; her sister and brother-in-law, Bates and Marcia Lea, Glenview, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Beryl Baer, Woodridge, Ill.; and Charles and Margaret Wilt, Springfield, Ohio.
    Patricia was blessed to have the compassionate and competent care of Martha Mezo for more than five years. Patricia's family thanks Martha for her tireless devotion to Patricia and the dignity of the care she provided. The family also wishes to thank Rise Mezo and Sandi VanSistine who also provided care for Patricia as well as Dr. Jeremy Green and the staff of Unity Hospice.
    Family and friends may call Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe Street, Green Bay, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral service will be celebrated at the church on Thursday, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Johnsen officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Schauer & Schumacher Funeral Home is assisting the family.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit the Heritage Hill Foundation, the YWCA and First United Methodist Church.
