Publisher Bay Area Genealogical Society (BAGS) Grave Site database. The cemetery project was started in 1976 by members of Bay Area Genealogical Society, Inc. All of the cemeteries in Brown County were walked and all grave markers were recorded, to the best of our ability. The main purpose of this cemetery project was to collect and reserve inscriptions from the old and deteriorating headstones in our cemeteries.

The website “Gravesite Search” was established in the early 1990’s. There was a glitch while putting the data onto our website, so in 1991-92 some of the cemeteries needed to be walked again. Therefore some of the cemetery inscriptions will be current up to 1992 while other cemeteries will only go up to 1976-77. This project took many, many hours of dedicated work by some very dedicated members. Going forward, the society does not plan to revisit the cemeteries to collect the more recent inscriptions data.
